“Great hotel!”
Reviewed December 2, 2009

Great value for what you pay. Great ambiance and neat & clean rooms. The location is perfect as it is surrounded by good shopping places. Rooms have a wonderful outside view and the hotel offers complementary breakfast .. which is a good deal. All in all, a great yet peaceful place to stay in a crowded city like Mumbai.

I have stayed for over a month so far, and it is my home away from home. It may not be 5 star, but its a 3 star that tries hard. Staff are great, some are young and inexperienced but they are all eager to please.
There is a little bit of traffic noise on the lower floors (it gets quiet at about 2am but then the dogs start barking) but that is the case at any hotel in the city which isnt on 20 acres.
Rooms are very nice, especially the end ones (01 & 09) and the middle ones (05).
Clean, good laundry service, honest staff. I left my room safe open with a pile of cash and other valuables, which was discovered by the cleaning staff. They contacted management who locked it up for safekeeping with nothing missing. Well done.
There is an Indian restaurant and a Thai restaurant as well as a bar where you can order meals. A gym is available for use although it is a 10 minute walk away.
Hotel is somewhat eco-friendly which is a bonus.

I stayed at Hotel Rodas for three week in 2009. I found the staff to be very helpful, the food was good, and the rooms comfortable. Each room has separate climate control, so you can keep it so you are comfortable. The breakfast every morning was good and filling. In the room I had, you could hear traffic going by until the small hours of the morning.

On both sides of the hotel are shopping complexes, on one side a Haiko (grocery store) and on the other a galleria with a wide range of small shops. Almost everything you might need (with the exception of souvenirs) is available within a five minutes walk. Note that this hotel is in Powai, and distant from most of the tourist attractions. And some taxi drivers from the city have trouble finding it.

I arrived mid morning after a chaotic taxi journey from Mumbai International airport. I was greeted nicely and shown to my room. the room itself was clean, plenty of towels in the bathroom and refreshments already in the room.

After a shower, shave and change into my suit I headed for work. the weather was hot and sultry as I had been warned it would be. My Indian colleaugue took me to the hotel restaurant for a wonderful buffer lunch where we were served starters, followed by soup and then a self service selection from the buffet. Every diet was catered for whether you were vegan, vegetarian, meat eater or a Jain. The food was delicious to my Western pallete and more importantly authentic Indian dishes.

I stayed for 4 nights and ate at the KFC one night - that was a mistake. I ate in the restaurant twice more for lunch and dinner. The food each time was wonderful. the service can be slow and I often had to ask for bread, water or ice cream. I am told that this is normal but when the staff are courteous and attentive it is difficult to become upset with them. Beware of the price of a glass of wine, I paud 700 rupees (GBP10) and it wasn't that good.

Breakfast offers another buffet with eggs cooked to order. The bacon was not what I was expecting but then again I was in India, not UK!

The room was clean and I had to have some shirts laundered which were done perfectly. There are 30 channels of Indian TV and you would think that from a population of over 1 billion souls they could find some decent actors and presenters. I found one news channel worth watching to catch the headlines then spent spare time working or reading my book.

The market opposite the hotel is worth wandering around. I bought 3 pashmina scarves as presents and haggled the man down to a decent price. I had of course visited all the shops to find the standard price being asked. Lots of good shops where I also bought a new padlock for my suitcase, the old one having been tampered with at some point between Glasgow and Mumbai. Nothing was missing from the suitcase but it fell open when I tried unlocking it on arrival.

Location of the hotel was perfect for me, only a few minutes from the office, and in the madness of Mumbai traffic that was a blessing.

Beware the boring ex-pat Brit who try to impose themselves on you and regale you with tales of nights out on the town and invitations to visit bars. Invariably they are broke and looking for someone to pick up the tab!

Overall for me this was a great hotel, lovely staff and wonderful food.
