Hotel was just the way other people had descibed here, very clean modern and quiet. Staff was very polite but not very friendly compared to other places (which is often fake), but neither I would not say they were unfriendly. We paid Rs 4500 per night, which I think was reasonable price for so tidy hotel. Room service was fast (20 min) but the continental food like pizza was not very good, so order rather Indian food. Breakfast was not very good neither, food was cold (it though seems to be everywhere in buffets in India ) even we were first customers in the morning, but you can have cheap breakfast for couple euros in nearby cafes (for example Moldegar). In addition restaurant was very small and not very cosy, but there are many restaurants nearby. There are good shopping places nearby.

Enjoyed our stay in the nice and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast in the cosy dining room.
We had our flight at night so we asked the receptionist about possibility to check out at 9 pm. It wasn't any problem because extension cost like for 1 day (something around 4500 INR). We agreed for this. When we came back to the room before our check out we have realized that nobody cleaned our room, no clean towels. We couldn’t understand why they treated us like that. However, after negotiation with the manager we got a small discount.
We strongly recommend this hotel.

It's a well appointed business hotel within a short walk of the gateway to india. Unlike a lot of indian hotels, it's not shabby. The staff are efficient, but expect tips - make sure you have a pocketful of change. But the rooms are nicely fitted out, clean, with comfortable beds, and the breakfast they serve is a good mixture of continental, north and south indian.

Oh, and the price, for Mumbai, wasn't that bad either.

We stayed in the hotel for a week, combining work and holiday.
Overall the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned regularly, and apart from the occasional stain in the sheets or towels (which is apparently fairly normal in India), no comments here. Both our rooms had AC, which was nice but very noisy in one of the two rooms.

The breakfast was a bit dull, but again comparable to most hotels in this price range.

The free internet was a welcome add-on during our stay.
And if you go there, try to get onto the roof, the view is nice on a sunny day.

Overall a nice place to stay!

The Hotel Suba Palace is a decent hotel in a fantastic location in Mumbai. The location is in a nice street (for Mumbai) only a stones throw from the Gateway of India and a great many good restaurants and bars (Leopolds, Indigo Deli, Laxmi Villas and Delhi Darbar are all very good). We did not find the breakfast horrible – it was Indian style and quite tasty with different foods every day – although the breakfast room is tiny.

Our room had an LCD TV with a huge selection of cable channels, including BBC World and Star Movies. The view from the window of our room on the 4th floor looked out the front of the hotel onto trees and some of the old colonial monuments of Mumbai – really quite nice. The bathroom was clean. One other good point is that they offer free in-room wifi. Our only problem was that when we arrived there was no top sheet on the bed (it was late and we were tired) which meant we had to sleep with our skin next to the slightly stained blanket. Not great, but the next day when the room was made up the sheet magically appeared.
Staff at the hotel were ok. A little unhelpful at times, but nice nonetheless.

Hotels in Mumbai are outrageously expensive, especially in Colaba. However, after travelling around Mumbai a little I would only recommend staying in Colaba or Churchgate. We booked the Suba Palace through Brancruz holidays – an agent in Goa who were very helpful and have a website.

If you can afford to stay at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, or the Intercontinental, do it. However, if like me you can’t, I can recommend staying at the Suba Palace. You can still have a drink as the sun goes down at the Intercon’s gorgeous Dome Bar – the highlight of our Mumbai trip.
