a welcome addition to the limited south mumbai clan of nighttime haunts. cheval is a perfect combination of a bar and a restaurant - allowing those who want to sip a cool cocktail while nibbling on some appetising snacks and listening to music which doesnt burst the ear drum the opportunity to do so and also allowing those who want to dine while catching some eye candy and not feeling like they are being punished for wanting some good grub in either a cheap hole in the wall or a wallet emptying 5 star stark formal 'dining room ' the opportunity to enjoy this too. the ambience, decor and the food here is good. their salads and desserts are fabulous as are their pizzas. we have gone in large groups and everytime everyone has been satisfied with their meals. it is worthwhile to note that cheval also offer a great weekday lunchtime offer. i would definately recommend cheval.

In the prime location of Kala Ghoda, lies this fancy but homely restaurant. This place is perfect for a nice meal at a nice place. Naturally it is heavy for the pockets as the location is amazing and the place offers a very chilled out atmosphere. The bar is fairly priced with the food being the highlight, pizzas and the ricotta are a must. Fresh lime soda was not good!
The service is quick and very polite. Easy to understand menu, basics covered and good quality food. A nice meal guaranteed.

We were 6 of us for dinner. Our table was for 9.30 and it was ready when we arrived. The place was relatively empty when we entered considering it was Saturday night but by 10.30pm it was buzzing. The décor is simple, lighting is good. Our table for a bit small for 6 people but we managed well.
The drinks are priced priced like everywhere else.
We were all vegetarians. We ordered 3 started and a salad with 2 soups. All that we ordered was excellent in taste and presentation.
The main course we ordered was pasta, pizza & risotto. This was also very good.
The chef visited our table to ask if everything was good and helped us order.
We skipped the desserts here so I am not able to write about it.

A relatively new arrival on the south Mumbai restaurant scene, Cheval has the potential of being a welcome addition.
The restaurant is a large airy room – duck egg blue walls, wood floor and large B&W photographs give it an almost gallery ambience. Odd choice of upholstery for the banquette seating – the sludgy floral print detracts from the freshness of the rest of the décor. Not so sure about the "graffiti" horse...but it does add to the gallery styling of the room.
I was there for lunch and the room was sparsely occupied. Despite this drinks took their time and table clearing was sporadic and a little inept. This needs to smarten up.
The food however makes up for a lot – we started with delicious smoked almonds and goats cheese tarts to nibble with our aperitifs. Shame there were no olives although on the menu. Mains were good – my crab cakes lacked a little texture but were very tasty; the pizza was thin and crispy with a good level of topping (too much cheese however and chorizo was just not up to scratch) and the obligatory Caesar salad was passable.
Desserts were simply enormous and well received - tiramisu and brioche bread pudding. Leave some room for them!

I visited Cheval based on friend's recommendation... but I was disappointed. To begin with, the room is quite bare which gives a COLD vibe to the restaurant. its like sitting in a stark, personality-less room.
The food was average-- since there was 4 of us, we ordered quite a few dishes in order to sample a wider range. We even ordered most of the dishes recommended by "BPB" in their review, but sadly we weren't blown away by the food.
To add to it, the night we were there, Cheval was having a stand up comedy night and towards the end of our dinner we could hear someone performing in another room! Great?!?!?! Not.
Sadly, I won't be back soon.....
