Been to South of Vindhyas often enough with friends and family and even just as a couple. Although the service here is not always great, its the food that keeps bringing us back again and again.
This time however, the delays were totally something. We got to the restaurant and were told to wait as a table was being set up in a few minutes. the few minutes turned out to be a good 15 minutes, we could see our table empty, and the service staff walking past it again and again but none of them either interested in clearing it or setting it up for us. We eventually were seated at the table, and that's was it, we were just seated!! No water served, for another ten minutes, until we called someone and asked for at least water to be served. He came to our table, apologized and gave us a couple of menus which we politely declined as we knew what we wanted, and conveyed it to him, the non veg set menu. He acknowledged this and walked away, and we expected him to be back with at least water and the drinks shortly.
Our waiting was long, as another fifteen minutes later we were still not serviced water, or papad (which is the normal procedure) we had to again call a supervisor, who as usual apologized again, and promised to get back. Another ten minutes later, we asked for at least the papad, which finally arrived. Still no water!! We kept nibbling at the papad, our patience slowly reached its end . . . . we were then served two minuscule pieces of chicken, which was meant to be the starter !!. Again another long wait . . . it was not a good hour since we had sat down at the restaurant . . . . .we called for a waiter again, and he said "ohh!!" and went into the kitchen and came out with our two thalis and set them on the table before us and walked away, then came back with two appams, and announced "these are your appams". I called him back and asked him to tell us what was in our thali, as a normal practice everytime we've been here, they set the thali down and then tell you what each of those bowls in the thali holds. He went on to name each dish, and when he was done i told him he had served us a veg thali instead of a non veg one!! . . . . this was completely the limit . . . after more than an hour's wait we finally get served a wrong menu!! And no excuse that the waiter heard our order wrong, coz he served is chicken as a starter!!
We had by now reached the end of our patience and my husband politely asked for the cheque for what we had eaten and said we didnt want any of the food, so not to bother with even changing out set menu dishes. The supervisor,(he should actually be named something else, coz all he did all evening was apologize, and nothing else) came and apologised again and said he would serve us the food we order COMPLIMENTARY!! we left the restaurant right away, but not before conveying to him that it wasn't about a complimentary meal!!
We are members with the Orchid Hotel and are now seriously considering cancelling our membership there, as our Valentines Day Dinner was completely ruined !!
