We booked directly after reading the promising reviews on Trip Advsior. Our stay was for 3 nights in a deluxe room. The hotel did provide pick up from the airport but our driver couldn't be found initially even though our flight was late in. So lots of standing around waiting. Upon arrival you would be forgiven that you had arrived at a dodgy apartment block that has suffered war damage (it is currently undergoing substantial renovations which is not mentioned on their website). Reception is on the 5th floor with an assortment of rooms on floors in between. So it can be a bit inconvenient when needing to leave your key at reception etc. The floors are serviced by an old fashioned lift which seemed to be in service all the time we were there. Our deluxe room fell short of the pictures and description on their website. Whilst the room was big with 2 double beds, it was not newly renovated and the bathroom decor was at least 5-10 years old. The "balcony" was a joke as it was covered in dirt and scaffolding from the building work going on. The air con unit was not very cold although there were 2 additional ceiling fans. We did double check with reception that we had a deluxe room and they said we had. When we returned to the room on one day, my friend found the cleaners in our room watching the tv and reading our magazines. We complained to reception who then wanted us to point out the offenders with them present! Very unprofessional! Building work started at 10am and went on till the early evening so no chance of an afternoon nap. On the up side the hotel seems very central for sightseeing but beware of all the taxi touts that hassle you as soon as you step out of the hotel. Speak to the doorman and he will call a taxi and negotiate a better rate. We ate at Chopsticks Chinese next door which was very good. Generally disappointed with overall standard of rooms as they are not cheap by Indian standards and def not deluxe by western standards!

booked the hotel late on orbitz as most hotels in mumbai were booked. confirmed the day before, airport pickup was there as scheduled, but was an expensive 1000rs. when i arrived, it appeared the whole place was under construction, with staff chipping a huge hole into the brick wall next to the elevator/stairwell on the ground floor. staff was friendly and attentive however, shuttled me off quickly through that cage elevator to the 5th floor to check in. put me in a room on the 2nd floor, it was reportedly renovated but it had a bathroom in a separate room down the hall which was a bit irritating. room itself was comfortable, had a safe. a bit of hammering during the day, but not too much room noise at night. a/c was nice and cold. wifi was available, but expensive. hotel in a good location in churchgate, plenty of restaurants and cafes around, with marine drive in one direction and fort/colaba in the other direction. breakfast was excellent, delivered to the room and only 60rs. they were able to arrange a taxi back to the airport for 300rs (after i declined their offer of their car for 1000rs). overall, good service and friendly staff, with a fair room, but the whole place seems in a state of construction flux, and mumbai as a whole is overpriced as well.

I decided to stay here after seeing the great reviews on this site and also because it was a lot cheaper than the alternatives. However, those who want 5 star comfort this is NOT the ritz. It has a rather shabby reception and lift to get up and the staff can be a little dour at times. However, the service is excellent with very quick room service and the prices are reasonable as well. I paid about £1.50 for a pint of beer, 30p for bottled water, about 90p for breakfast which included some vegie patties, banana, coffee and toast with jam, you can have eggs instead of the patties if you prefer. The room service menu is very basic but very cheap. Where else could you have breakfast for less than a pound?

I booked a deluxe room which it was however, the bathroom was outside the room across the hall. I was told it was my private bathroom but I wonder if this was not true. However, although the bathroom was very basic it was clean.

I got a room with a balcony but even in November the heat was oppressive and the views not pleasant but it was still nice to suck up some night air.

The aircon did not drop below 22 making it a little warm but the celing fan was very powerful which helped.

My room was huge and the decor ok and the king sized bed very comfortable.

I may consider staying here again, the restaurants are close as is the train station where there are a lot of kiosks should you want to stock up on water, soft drinks and crisps.

I so far (still here) have not been hounded by beggars or touts in this area and enjoyed a nice walk along the seafront this morning.

The only disadvantages I had are they refused to honour the price that I reserved the room at but is was only about 20 pounds more than I booked it for, their arguement was that exchange rates have changed which may be true so may be worth to pay at time of booking to guarantee the price. Even so the room was excellent value for price paid.

When you arrive in India for the first time, at least as a european, everything is a big chock. And for us, it was a big relief and joy to be able to come home to a great hotel in the evenings, an oasis from the chaotic Mumbai.

The room we stayed in, i think it was a superdeluxe room (it's worth the extra money if you are'nt used to indian standrad!) was perfectly clean and comparative to european standard.

The location is also the best possible - a quite calm area, but still in the middle of everything. Away from chaotic streets of Colaba, and the pushy salesmen of Railsway areas. But still within waking distance from almost everything.

Having read about price in India, we expected everything to be expencive in Mumbai. But after one month of travelling around in the country, we ave noticed that only yhe rooms are pricier in Mumbai. The decent room service breakfast, for example, is still the cheapest and most valuable one we ave had in India.

You could do a lot worse than this hotel in Mumbai. It's not top end and it's not particularly beautiful, but it serves a purpose - good room, not too expensive and very centrally located. We stayed in the recently renovated first floor with a small window which gave onto the central courtyard. We would have preferred a room that had a balcony onto the street, but those were higher up and under renovation when we were there. The room was well equipped and almost "boutique" standard with a designed bathroom and tv etc - it's been nicely done, though we were looking for more of and old world colonial charm (not really sure this exists any more...). The staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly. Location is great as it's a minute from Marine Drive and five/ten minutes to most the central sights. A great functional hotel - which is not to damn it with faint praise....

Mumbai hotels are expensive, so you shouldn't really judge the prices by other India prices.

The location of this hotel is amazing - about 50 yards from Marine Drive, within easy walking distance of Churchgate, the museums and galleries at Kala Ghoda.

I stayed in one of the un-renovated rooms. It wasn't the Taj - but then at 30-odd pounds a night I hadn't paid for that! My room was basic but it was spotless, and serviced every day. All four walls of the room were tiled, which looked a bit bleak .

There is a very basic room service menu - Tea, Toast, Eggs and soft drinks, which means you can get breakfast in your room. At Rs 60, the breakfast is good value and the service is fast and (usually) friendly, and the Tea was leaves in a pot with a strainer - something I haven't seen in a UK hotel for years!!

The absence of a restaraunt isn't a problem as there are loads of really good places to eat on Veer Nariman Road. I agree with what's been said on here about the Gaylord (the Garlic Naan there is an amazing thing!) - but I also loved the Tea Centre, on the same side of the road as the hotel, a bit further up VN road

So dion't expect the Taj, as you certainly won't be getting it, but it' does the job!

I was really surprised at the brilliant standard of my room. It looks as if I had a brand new renovated room on floor one. It was very high tech and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was designer and the staff were all excellent. They were all really helpful and friendly. A great hotel to stay at a very reasonable price that is close to the beach area and offers great views of the ocean from just the end of the street. Also try the great pizza restaurant on the corner of the street, it’s really great food and service.
