“Warm, cozy, classy - a theatre lover's paradise”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Prithvi theatre is a small (150-200 seats), cozy and classy theatre with free seating located in Juhu (a suburb on the coast of Mumbai). The theatre hosts plays in English, Hindi, Marathi and many other languages. There are shows on practically every day of the week.

this theatre has a special feel, because you are seated only a few feet away from the artists and so you can and also the actors' expressions from a close distance. The acoustics are nice you can hear the voice of the artist minus the loudspeakers.

The tickets are very reasonably priced - Rs.100-250/- They are very particular about being on time. If you reach late you may not be allowed to enter until the intermission.

There is a small bookstore outside where you can spend time browsing through some books before the play/performance.

Very often, just before the evening show, at the entrance, you'll find an open air performance (free to all) being put on by new artists or theatre groups. This is often interesting - you get to see new talent and some experimental stuff.

The theatre has a coffee shop and open air restaurant. The brownie that they sell is quite yummy - make sure you get one during the intermission :) Otherwise the service is slow and it can be quite annoying if you are hungry or want to grab a bite just in time before the show - don't expect them to hurry up :)

This is a must visit if you are in Mumbai and you love theatre.

“Heaven for the Artists”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

One of the most amazing places to be at. Its not a restaurant nor its a hangout place. Its THE place where Theatre was born in India and this is THE place where it has been sustained. Go there for the experience. India's Leicester Square.

“Just as well”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

If you are a theater lover there aren't many options in Mumbai. This is an old theater with a long standing tradition and they have some excellent plays. Apart from this one, you would have to travel to South Mumbai.

“Intimate theater experience”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

I have always loved Prithvi Theater. It is a small theater with first-come-first-serve seats. The plays I have seen have all been well-performed. What makes the experience truly special is that it is small and intimate and you feel like the actors are really speaking to you personally.
