Prithvi theatre is a small (150-200 seats), cozy and classy theatre with free seating located in Juhu (a suburb on the coast of Mumbai). The theatre hosts plays in English, Hindi, Marathi and many other languages. There are shows on practically every day of the week.
this theatre has a special feel, because you are seated only a few feet away from the artists and so you can and also the actors' expressions from a close distance. The acoustics are nice you can hear the voice of the artist minus the loudspeakers.
The tickets are very reasonably priced - Rs.100-250/- They are very particular about being on time. If you reach late you may not be allowed to enter until the intermission.
There is a small bookstore outside where you can spend time browsing through some books before the play/performance.
Very often, just before the evening show, at the entrance, you'll find an open air performance (free to all) being put on by new artists or theatre groups. This is often interesting - you get to see new talent and some experimental stuff.
The theatre has a coffee shop and open air restaurant. The brownie that they sell is quite yummy - make sure you get one during the intermission :) Otherwise the service is slow and it can be quite annoying if you are hungry or want to grab a bite just in time before the show - don't expect them to hurry up :)
This is a must visit if you are in Mumbai and you love theatre.
