Built when the king and queen of England landed in India, this monument was to welcome them. In front of it us the Arabian Sea and posing through it us the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel , with its Gothic facade

Apart from the interesting structure and the history behind it, it simply buzzes with people of all kinds. You will get pestered by professional photographers, just say no and they move on. We came early evening and waited for sunset when the lights come on and the Gate then becomes a different building.

Don't go on a Sunday! …. way to busy! Any other day was enjoyable. Great place to take photos or be asked to have your photo taken with the locals.

Gateway of India, though looks like only a massive door and with too much crowd there it just does not seem to be romantic place. But any time of the day go there, sit in some place, close your eyes and try reimagining the history associated with this monument. The experience shall be truly exhilarating, if you can soak the feeling of witnessing the events that has happened 100/s of years back.

This is a historical place to hang out at gateway of India. But please try to be there in the evening time. From here you can get ferry service to go Elephant cave.
