“Goes without saying that this Iconic Location is a Mumbai Must-see.”

Of course you have to go and take a look at the Gateway of India. This is one of the most recognised sights of the World and seeing it for real is an experinece not to miss out on. Ok, naturally there are lots of people, lots of folk trying to sell you things, folk asking you to do surveys, guys btrying to take your photo for you etc., but you must talk a walk around the gateway and drink in the atmosphere, the noise, the numerous boats by the quay, the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, and the sights of the world going about its business.

“The landmark of Mumbai”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Gateway of India is Mumbai's iconic landmark and so is the Taj Hotel just opposite to it.

The Gateway was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder, when they visited India in 1911.

People who visit Mumbai for the first time, surely visit the Gateway. It has a good view of the Arabian Sea and also provides ample of photo clicking opportunities.

One can also enjoy a short 30 mins boat ride from Gateway. Yes but see to it that you opt for the double decker boat and get a seat on the upper deck. They charge you 60-80 Rs for a 20-30 mins ride. They also have private speed boats over there ... but not sure if that is available for a ride.

Also you'll find many photographers who will click and provide you with instant photos. They charge 20 Rs. per photo and if you bargain a bit you may get 3 photos for 50 Rs.

You also get a boat from Gateway to go to Elephanta caves or Alibag.

In all a must visit icon of Mumbai.

“Must Visit”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

No visit to Mumbai would be complete without coming to the Gateway of India. It is a historical monument located on the coast right next to the Iconic Taj hotel. We were here on aFriday evening and the place was full of visitors. It is an imposing structure and the site is well maintained. One must go through the mandatory security frisking before entering.
There is no entrance fee. There are a lot of steamers that take you to the nearby Elephanta caves or one can just avail rides for about half an hour by paying Rs 70. One can also take a leisurly ride in the horse drawn buggies from the adjoining road.
The traffic is pretty heavy on the approach roads so parking is a big problem. We parked some distance away and walked. Another option is to take a taxi. The only thing that irks one is the constant nagging by the large number of photographers who keep pestering you get pictures clicked by them for a fee. Overall a nice experience and I would recommend that after visiting here one should head down the Marine Drive and come to the Chowpatty Beach.
