Owner description: Built in 1911 to welcome the King and Queen of England, this stone archway in Colaba is now a historic landmark.

This was a beautiful building and a very bustling place. If you are not a fan of crowds this place is not for you. If you do not blend in with the locals expect a fair amount of attention from people selling goods or looking for handouts. But everybody was very friendly even when I turned them down. I hear sometimes there are events held here however I didn't see any while I was there.

The place to be in if you are in Colaba. The boats leave from here for Elephanta Caves and Mandwa and Alibag. Steeped in history. The place has been cleaned up but is still charming. Worth spending time in the early morning and late night.

The historic society has finally fenced access to the structure. Enjoy a view at night from the Taj with the gateway all lit up.

For free, you can see the port of entry and exit for many of the British Raj. It's become a bit of a mess since they forced entry and exit from only one point (near the yacht club) but definitely worth a visit at dusk for a view of the sea, the sight of all the tony yachts and boats docked in the bay, the Taj hotel lit up and for balloons, little gizmos and snacks of roasted corn on the cob. A must visit for every visitor in Colaba if only for a few minutes. And the instant photos are less than a dollar - go on, get one, let people know you were here!
