Owner description: This popular tourist district includes museums, the Gateway of India, a slew of shops and vendors on the Colaba Causeway and the Sassoon Dock, where fishing boats unload their pungent catches at dawn.

Lined with the old bars, restaurants and movie theatres, a walk at Colaba Causeway is not for the faint hearted. Wear casuals and get ready to see some of the most fascinating handicrafts along the sidewalk. Be very picky about price and quality. Walk onto a parallel street and grab tea at the Taj Mahal Hotel and view the Gateway of India.

Lots of tourists and expensive tat interspersed with some nice boutiques and the odd good restaurant. Every tourist heads here for their Shantaram experience and you must do it but their are far more interesting places in Mumbai. Why eat dodgy western food in an over rated cafe when some of the best food you will ever eat is to be found just along the road at the literally thousands of restaurants and food stalls that are all over the city

I loved walking in this area called Colaba. Its in South Mumbai, very close to Gate way of India and Taj hotel. If you are on a leisure trip then must stay near this area as its very colorful. Lot of things to buy, good quality food. I am vegetarian and it was nice to find lot of vegetarian restaurants. Its my favorite place in Mumbai.

Colaba was a great place to visit for an evening. Buzzing with people and lots of things to see; I did most of my shopping here.

Be aware that prices are *heavily* inflated for tourists. You must haggle (an alien concept to some cultures). I make an offer of 1/4 or 1/3 of their price, and hope to meet in the middle. You can negotiate a better deal if you buy more than one item from the same stall.

Some great bargains to be had, but the market traders and beggars are VERY aggressive.

Great shopping, good for money change. Watch the beggars they are not sincere and as fat as horses. Good food in the cafe mid way down, and get good bargains
