This hotel is a safe bet in a reasonable area right opposite Bombay Hospital.
Rooms are spacious, clean and airy if a bit old fashioned in styling. There is a safe and plenty of hot water and TV (no cable, though) . Each floor has its own waiter whom you can summon by pressing a bell in your room.
Food is frankly so-so - the breakfast in particular is best avoided with coffee tasting like muddy water. If you can summon the energy, take the 15-20 minute walk to the Barista cafe near the Regal cinema for great cappucinos, muffins and cheese toasties - cheaper than breakfast in the hotel, too! By cab it should cost you no more than 30 rupees.
Service in the restaurant as with reception staff is generally a bit poker-faced. Much more friendly, and not to be missed, is the hotel bar, 'Chez Nous'. My wife and I referred to this as the 'Furry Bomb Shelter' - hilariously stuck in the 1970's in design but if you order a refreshing, cold beer, you will be served a filling range of accompanying nibbles.
Overall, stay in the more happening area of Kolaba if you can - otherwise this is a good second or third choice.
Finally, the cab from Mumbai Domestic Airport to this hotel should cost you 350 rupees. When you arrive at the airport you will be accosted by many taxi drivers, some of whom may quote you 800 rupees or more. As always in India, be polite but very firm!
