“Clean, safe hotel Without Being Over-Friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2008

This hotel is a safe bet in a reasonable area right opposite Bombay Hospital.

Rooms are spacious, clean and airy if a bit old fashioned in styling. There is a safe and plenty of hot water and TV (no cable, though) . Each floor has its own waiter whom you can summon by pressing a bell in your room.

Food is frankly so-so - the breakfast in particular is best avoided with coffee tasting like muddy water. If you can summon the energy, take the 15-20 minute walk to the Barista cafe near the Regal cinema for great cappucinos, muffins and cheese toasties - cheaper than breakfast in the hotel, too! By cab it should cost you no more than 30 rupees.

Service in the restaurant as with reception staff is generally a bit poker-faced. Much more friendly, and not to be missed, is the hotel bar, 'Chez Nous'. My wife and I referred to this as the 'Furry Bomb Shelter' - hilariously stuck in the 1970's in design but if you order a refreshing, cold beer, you will be served a filling range of accompanying nibbles.

Overall, stay in the more happening area of Kolaba if you can - otherwise this is a good second or third choice.

Finally, the cab from Mumbai Domestic Airport to this hotel should cost you 350 rupees. When you arrive at the airport you will be accosted by many taxi drivers, some of whom may quote you 800 rupees or more. As always in India, be polite but very firm!

Stayed at this hotel for four nights. Located in the city centre close to gateway of India and main shopping. Hotel is very clean, large rooms, well furnished and staff very polite and courteous. Excellent service. Would stay there again.

Considering how expensive Mumbai hotels can be, this property has amazingly attentive and friendly staff, clean spacious rooms, wonderful bathrooms, and reasonably priced room service. The location is very central, walking distance to Churchgate station and a 20 rupee ride to Colaba by non-a/c taxi. WiFi is not possible in some rooms, and the rooms at the back are quieter, though views aren't great, lol. Overall, we'd stay here again in a heartbeat...

this hotel was recommended to me by a mumbaiker, and i was very happy with my stay here. the rooms are huge, the location relatively quiet, and best of all the staff seem genuinely friendly and helpful. my kids loved it.

the food is reasonably good, though the buffet presented some unlikely choices (gulab jamun for breakfast?). perhaps it's only because i'm a foreigner that i find this odd.

the little bar looks strangely futuristic - no windows and lots of silver coloured padding - and if you order a gin and tonic it comes with a table full of complimentary snacks. yum!

This is a basic hotel with big, clean rooms, nice bathroom and a depositbox in the room but otherwise not what you'd expect from a four starred hotel. The location is not bad, pretty close to the "center" of Bombay, but the street is crowded with poor people, living there. We did not find the restaurant worth value. Staff friendly though.

I visit Bombay (Mumbai) on work regularly. Over the last 12 years. about half my trips saw me check in at this hotel. In a city where hotel room prices have increasingly become exhorbitant, the West End gives you a good room for a reasonable price.

This is not a fancy hotel- no frills and facilities which you indirecly pay for and rarely use. Spacious rooms, clean sheets, clean bathrooms and friendly service.

The sole restaurant serves good Indian and Continental food. My only grouse is that the South Indian offerings that are part of the buffet breakfast are pretty sad. The bar serves drinks at very reasonable prices. (one of the rare places in mumbai where a drink is 60 ml and not 30 !)

The furniture and decor are quaint - not ultramodern but comfortable.

Value for money....something you cant say for most hotels in this city

Do not take this hotel, if you have to pay about 60 euros per night this kind of ragged hotel in tremendous district. Right price is not more than 20 euros per night.
