We booked 5 nights at the Hotel Godwin when we couldn't get in touch with Shelley's Hotel because their website was unavailable. Booking via email was a pleasant experience, Mr Singh was extremely friendly and helpful, however when we arrived at the hotel the requested room - a renovated room on 7th or 8th floor - was not available. After rejecting the room offered, which was on 3rd floor (small but OK, but at that time overlooked some noisy building work on the street) we were immediately offered an "upgrade" to a suite room on 6th floor. This turned out to be exactly the same decor as those on 7th/8th floor, and was a large corner room with a sofa, a separate raised seating area and a distant view of the sea.
Breakfast was a choice of Indian or continental (both buffet) and was extremely good. The only problem - which became a bit of a running joke - was the inefficiency of the young staff in re-stocking the food and crockery. It was rare to be able to get a full breakfast in one go - if there was milk there would be no cups and if there were cups there would be no tea etc. so it was bit of a relay race to get everything you wanted. That said, I liked the hotel a lot - the rooms were clean, the staff were helpful and the locatioin was great. What's more, we were still charged the original price we had agreed when we booked, even though we had been given a more expensive room. I'd definitely go there again - probably this year if Shelley's website is still playing up.
