I arrived in Vits Hotel Mumbai at 02.00 hours local time after a long and tiresome journey fron Athens to Munich and Mumbai. The staff on duty were accustomed to receive travellers that late, and everything went as it should. I was accompanied to my room and the bellboy who carried my luggage did not mind the ridiculously small tip I gave him, as I did not yet understand the value of the rupee.
I stayed in this hotel for more than half a month, and every day my relation to the hotel people grew to become a friendship. They regularly left me an evaluation sheet to state my mind about their service and there was nothing to complain about, only praise for their efficiency and immediacy of response to what there had to be. Ie,the bathroom originally was not well adjusted to me needs, I asked for a shower handle on a spiral tube to replace the fixed on the wall shower faucet, and the shower seat to be lowered, so I could move easily from and to my wheelchair. These things were done in a few hours by the hotel mechanics. They also added I glass shelf in front of the mirror to accomodate my bathroom paraphernalia. Well, these things do not happen so quickly in our world...
I want to add a few words for everyone of the hotel staff who have all helped to make me feel comfortable, appreciated, and welcome, for the gracious house manager Mangeet, who gave me info and helped solve all problems within and without the hotel, to Michelle and the guys house-managers, to Pradeep, Vijay, and Abdul Rachim , the bellboys, who helped repeatedly --they even checked how heavy my luggage was when I was about to depart, as to have no problem of excess weight luggage at the airport; to the entrance people and the guards, who gave a push to my wheelchair as I was entering or outing, always with a genuine smile in their eyes. I want to thank the restaurant people, Rajou and his brilliant team, to the cooks, Mr Wong first, for his compassion of spirit, but his excellence in chinese haute cuisine, sublime dumplings too! There are many names I have forgotten, but I shall always remember the bright and radiant faces! I want to thank the internet people, my friends Lobhus and Ravindra, who were ready to help and kindly support my free connection with the net, whenever I neeeded. And I must also thank the cleaning people especially Rachom, Manish and the kind guy who helped to pack my luggage at departure.
There may be some things that should be done about the building and the structures, but I had the opportunity to understand that people make the diffeence between a good and a not so good hotel. I conlude that the VITS has the right staff to be a great hotel.I recommend the VITS to all, especially the handicapped people! And I hope to make this trip again!
