“Has the edge on the Taj Palace”
Reviewed April 10, 2011

We normally stay at the Taj Palace on the Club Floor, whilst this is a great hotel with an excellent location the feeling here is of a short stay customers/business. The hotel is very full and busy at all times. We decided to try the Oberoi as we have stayed in them all over India and it is in a different area of Mumbai. Right from arriving they knew we had stayed with them a number of times before, they upgraded us to an amazing suite and when I asked if we cd have a late check out the following day they were charming and allowed us to check out at 3.30pm and even tidied the room. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff, as in all Oberois are so well trained and seem to really care no matter how long you are there for. The breakfast was excellent, lovely public areas and even though a hotel for business people they were contained in another area so peaceful. The pool is small but service good and well placed for views, it is a city pool. Italian restaurant wasn't the best food we had had and the service was a bit over the top but they took this on board and insisted we didn't pay for the meal even though we insisted we wanted to, they dealt with it so well, redeemed themselves.

On leaving they asked us if they could take us to airport in their new Merc Limo, this was really good as was the driver. No charge for this.

We are converted back to Oberoi, try it, we think it has the edge over the Taj Palace (apart from perhaps the views and position up there)

Enjoyed a very quick stay for business - Overall very good, but think other reviewer not too far off the mark in that it's very 'international' in feel

In-room check in, as you are met in the lobby and walked straight to your room (security measure i believe) - room was nice, if a little on the small side - not full sea view, but you could see a little sliver of the ocean - nice amenities (though no razor/toothbrush), decent shower, plenty of towels - nice bath too with tv overhead - bed one of the best i've slept in anywhere - crazy comfy! - nice big TV with loads of channels - bottled water in the room (complimentary) though the hotel says you can drink the tap water (good luck trying that!) - i note no free wifi, so marks duducted there

only ate breakfast and it was very good - very friendly service and nice buffet - food very good quality - location wise it depends where you need to get too - but it can be outrageously slow going up north towards Woorli direction during the day - it is quite close to Gateway to India and a few other sights touristy things

overall a very nice hotel in an amazing city - though its perhaps a little 'generic' if you are looking for something a little more unique.

The refurbished Oberoi is an oasis in Mumbai. We stayed in a suite overlooking the sea - with its contemporary interior and huge picture windows, luxury bathroom and the most comfortable bed my friend had ever slept in, we thought we were in heaven.
The cleanliness and service is first rate. Every member of their team is welcoming, obliging and thoughtful - our maid hung our clothes and even brought a shoe holder into the room for our shoes. This is primarily a business hotel but with the Trident (sister) hotel next door we could nip across during the day to use their pool facilities which were more leisure focused than the Oberoi as you would expect....this is a one-way deal, if you want complete peace and quiet they are unable to use the Oberoi's facilities.
All of the restauarants are fabulous, we enjoyed Ziya (contemporary Indian cuisine) on a couple of nights, including our last night when Vineet Bhatia was showcasing his new menu - it was amazing. They have a fabulous italian restaurant and a third restaurant with a fusion of food from sushi to steak but it works brilliantly. Breakfast was amazing every day.
For those of you lucky enough to have stayed with Oberoi you will know the service their team deliver is intuitive and to the high standard consistently - for those of you who have not stayed at an Oberoi I recommend you do.
Business facilities are excellent, with easy to access internet, wifi etc in your room. Small but well equipped and luxurious spa - menu aimed more at the business woman/man but great.
Trident next door has some great restaurants and a more relaxed spa experience with more treatments designed for a leisure break.
Perfect all round - highly recommend the hotel if you are visiting Mumbai.

I booked 2 suites for my family just going off the pics and Oberoi website. I found the hotel very, very nice and better than expected by a long shot. Its clean, stylish, quiet and the staff were extremely helpful and discrete. They certainly did not hang around and carried out tasks with ease and no hassle. Their advice was honest and without any sales pitch other hotel staff can be like.

The sea view suites were beautifully furnished and very classy...the bathroom was large with very nice toiletries. Fresh bottled water and fruit provided daily and a welcome snack are nice touches. The breakfast is tasty and with enough local and foreign variety. Ziya, the inhouse Indian restaurant is to die for...amazingly well trained and discrete staff along with very tasty modern Indian cuisine tailored by Vineet Bhatia. Worth a visit.

We had complimentary one way airport pickup in brand new 5 series BMW's which was very convenient and hassle free. The airpost meet and greet staff were as good as the ones in the hotel itself. We ended up hiring a BMW daily for the 4days there with driver Ashish, who is worth every rupee he is paid! Compliments also to Ravinder the bell boy and the concierge on duty then. I would DEFINITeLY return to this hotel!

The hotel is wonderfully located on the sea side in the Town , has excellent and courteous staff, great food and lovely ambience. I am a frequent visitor to the Hotel and the staff ensures complete comfort and customization like news paper choice, photo ID (required in most 5* properties after Taj incident) and room location. They make you feel special and are ever ready to help with anything like late laundry or late meal. Highly recommended for a pressed Business Traveller.

The hotel is located in a very good location, and many important amenities are easily accessible. The rooms were amzingly clean and spacious. Very Courteous Staff and Crew, will give you an amazing experience. The restaurants were serving good food. The hotel always had conferences and large business meets. It was a bit inconvenient considering the extra security check because of VIP presence, noise and crowd.

I stayed at the Tident section of the Oberoi with my mother on a recent trip to india. it is a very nice hotel . The staff are very helpful and everything is very clean and works very well. N.B. the toilets have a glass wall which can prove tricky if you are in a twin room, esp if you're with your mum! but luckily it has a slide down privacy blind too. The breakfast are very good, offering, well pretty much everything. the complimentary newspapers are good to wake up to in the morning.
