“One of the very best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2007

This was my first trip to India - and what a wonderful introduction. In my business (film), I get to stay in some of the best hotels around the world, and this one is up there with the very best.

What makes it so special is the service. The service can't be faulted. It helps that the hotel is small, but even so, there is a desire on the part of everyone to make your stay very special.

Little things such as - it was my 25th wedding anniversay during our stay. The hotel staff made a real fuss of us - we got three cakes on the day. (One at breakfast, one at dinner, and one before we went to sleep!)

We were upgraded to a corner suite and it was spectacular. As luxurious as anything I've experienced in the top hotels in Los Angeles - and the view up and down Marine Drive was awesome.

On our return stay (after a week in Rajasthan) we stayed in a Seaview Deluxe room. It wasn't as big and didn't have Bulgari toiletries but the view was just as spectacular and the room was gorgeous.

On our return trip, I thought breakfast was included as it had been in our first trip. The breakfasts at this hotel are a knockout by the way - ask for a Masala omelette. Anyway, at the end of the meal I was given a bill. I queried this with the waiter, thinking the breakfast was complimentary.

I then checked our booking and discovered that we'd reserved the room under an Advance Purchase option and breakfast WASN'T included, unlike our first booking which was booked under a Weekend rate which did include breakfast.

But without our asking, the Manager gave us the breakfast complimentary anyway. He said it was a minor matter and he didn't want it to spoil our experience at the hotel.

This sort of graciousness would have me back like a flash next time in Mumbai, and has had me singing their praises ever since.

The location is great - right on Marine Drive and a quick cab ride to the centre of town, but what makes this hotel special is the truly great service. It now makes me ask - why can't more hotels be like this?

  • Liked — The service is truly amazing. The rooms are large and kept immaculate
  • Disliked — Nothing. A great hotel. And I'm fussy!

My partner and I arrived in Mumbai for a 3 day stay at this hotel after visiting Goa. Wow. We were met at the airport by the hotel chauffer who was extremely friendly and didn't give one taxi driver the opportunity to harrass us as they usually do.

Air-con limo and cold drinks were a welcome relief in the heat and our driver was a wealth of information all the way to the hotel. About a 20-30 minute drive depending on the traffic. Arrived at the hotel to be greeted by a girl from reception who took us straight to our room to check in. No hanging around in the lobby. Quick and efficient.

Just settling in when a gentleman knocked at our door to ask us what time we wanted our complimentary massage. Nice. I declined as we were desperate to get out and about but very nice.

We tried the rooftop restaurant the night before we left and were not disappointed. Beautiful sushi but we ordered far too much. The tempura prawns were gigantic so couldn't really manage much more. Gorgeous but the wine was very overpriced for what it was.

it was the most expensive meal we had in India but still cheaper than a restaurant of the same standard in the UK. £100 for both of us. Cheap really, especially as we asked the waiter to sit us by the edge and had panoramic views of Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach. Stunning.

Lounged out by the pool for a bit after our meal on lovely leather beds they put out on the night and there was also a vodka lounge which was great. Good music too. Say hello to Brito (the barman). Cool guy.

We went out shopping the day of our departure and were supposed to return to the hotel to collect our bags and meet our driver. However, it got too late to return and then drive to the airport, so the concierge arranged our bags for us and sent the driver to collect us at the shopping mall. No extra charge. Excellent.

Definitely stay here again. We did all the touristy trips to Elephanta Island, Gateway of India, The Taj Palace and had a great night out at a local restaurant on Chowpatty beach and another at the Hard Rock Cafe (VIP'd). Taxi's dirt cheap so location was fine. Definitely come back here again. Loved Mumbai in general too.

we ended up staying moving to this hotel after the first hotel that was booked by family members was awful. the intercontinental was in a fantastic location and definite 5 stars. luxurious rooms, although definitely more geared for the business traveler with personal fax etc. in each room. each room had plasma tvs and excellent decor. the water didn't get hot enough but we were happy to at least get a warm shower. continental breakfast was more than we could ask for and you could also order a la carte. the service was amazing. free massage was included per room. the bar has a wonderful view of the queen's necklace. it has plush white couches and great service. this hotel was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.

My wife and I stayed at the Intercontinental Marine Drive for 16 days and I must say that it is the best City centre hotel we have stayed in. Compared to the Taj Palace, the Intercontinental is personal, high quality, has large suites and is away from the rush of tourists. It is a true boutique hotel, expensive at over 400 dollars a night, but worth it if you want to stay for an extended period of time in Mumbai.

This hotel has a lot of things going for it. First of all—the location. It's situated on Marine Drive and is really handy for visiting all the sights. Secondly, the design. The lobby is lofty and hip. Our room was absolutely enormous and had a very chic white marble bathroom. The only thing we had problems with was the technology. There are hi-tech, touch-sensitive light switches, which we didn't get to grips with... and one light all of a sudden popped back on about 20 minutes after we'd gone to bed. The only thing wrong with the room was the view—which was not out onto the sea, but onto a very scruffy apartment building next door.
We enjoyed the breakfast and had a delicious lunch at the Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't stay long enough to take advantage of the bar and pool on the roof, but they looked really cool. The service was on the whole good, but the staff on the front desk definitely could do with stepping up a gear. It took us about 20 minutes to check out and change money... and they seemed a little confused by the whole process. That said, we'd definitely stay here again the next time we're back in Mumbai.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in early January 2007. The room we had booked, a sea facing standard room was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful sea views, and one of the largest standard hotel rooms, I have ever stayed in. The rooftop bar and restaurant were fabulous, as was the rooftop swimming pool.

However, what really made the hotel stand out was the attentiveness of the staff. When we arrived at the hotel we realised we had left some documents on the plane. The duty manager arranged for them to be collected from the airport and returned to us and made no charge for this service. The concierge was also fantastically helpful and was happy to give advice about Mumbai, without trying to sell us the excursions offered by the hotel.

Most impressive of all however, was the help given to us by our driver when the train we were catching to Goa was diverted to depart from another station, rather than Victoria terminus. This meant a hectic car journey to the alternative station, which was several miles away. The driver then carried our (heavy), suitcases into the station found out what platform our train was departing from and then found our carriage for us. This in a chaotic and crowded Indian train station, where we would have struggled without his assistance.

Overall, I could not recommend this hotel too highly.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights back in december. it had a nice lobby, despite being a small hotel, and is well and thoughtfully decorated throughout. The rooms are very large and nicely decorated - not indian - once you close the curtains you could be anywhere. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, helped by the choice of about 10 different types of pillow. The bathroom was a bit strange- not quite to my taste. The seperation from the main room was incomplete - OK for a couple I suppose - but even then...
The gym was way too small and really not user friendly. The really outstanding thing is the swimming pool on the roof of the hotel. In the evening it provides beautiful views of the bay and the queen's necklace.
Would recommend highly.....but it's just not the Taj.
