Description: Hakkasan Mumbai opened in June 2011 in the fashionable Bandra district, and has since become one of the most popular dining destinations in the city. Designers Gilles & Boissier combined Hakkasan's signature design elements, such as dark-stained English oak screens and latticing, with a backlit blue glass that surrounds the contemporary restaurant. A 16-metre blue glass and stainless steel bar, along with an open-plan kitchen, add to the restaurant's sense of theatre. Serving an extensive range of vegetarian dishes alongside Hakkasan signature dishes, the restaurant accommodates 120 guests, including a private dining area and the 44-seat Ling Ling lounge.

This is serious fine dining.. and the food nevaaa disappoints.. Make sure you have a reservation... this is often frequented by the well heeled so make sure you have your heels in place..people who relish the real authetic chinese will love the fare The ambiance is perfect make sure you opt for seating near bar side...The shades and hues of purple and blue along with brillaint dim lightin sets the mood..The dimsums are a must have..you can experiment gobbling with chopsticks if the experienced chinese food eater..Steamed rice and the stir fired chicken also works well.. the flavours are subtle and delicious.. Throw in salads if you must.. they are good... Overall if you need to treat yourself or friends fo something really good in life you must head here... It is steep as opposed to sister restaurant Yauatcha on the other side of bandra..TIP:You can always step out and have a drink later along with dessert if you want to keep budgets really tight..

“Overhyped -nothing great-disappointing”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Went for dinner at Hakkasan on 29th August, wednesday, around 9.00 PM, place was 80% empty, average food, little portions, way too expensive, nothing great, ambience OK, quite dark, so people who do not like very low lighting will not like it.

“An experience...”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

Going to Hakkasan feels a bit like going to an exclusive London or New York nightclub. Reservations are important, the door is guarded by massive bouncers and there are 2 reception desks as well as several hosts and many different kind of waiters and barmen. We went on a Friday night and it a bit quiet around 8:30 PM. We had fantastic cocktails at the bar and a nice chat with the friendly barmen and decided to have the dumplings at the bar too. These were amazing. For dinner we had 5 style mushrooms and an amazing fish dish. The food is very tasty, the wine list impressive and the food very modern Chinese.

Once you're used to Indian prices, this might be quite a shock... but still affordable for Western standards. A good experience to add a little contrast to your Mumbai stay!

“Off-beat decor---but disappointing vegetarian food !”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

The restaurant certainly has an off-beat decor--both at the Bar and at the dining area. But the vegetarian food------ ( I being a vegetarian cannot comment on the non-veg food which is perhaps the main focus at this Chinese restaurant !)----was quite disappointing. They served what they claimed to be four different dishes--from different vegetables like eggplant, onions, beans, etc.---but to my surprise and huge disappointment, they all looked identical and even tasted very similar ! Three of my colleagues who had vegetarian dishes with me shared the same view ! We had to even waste a whole bowl of one dish ! Surely there are several better ways of making good Chinese vegetarian dishes !

“Good experience”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

We visited Hakkasan in May 2012 when it was celebrating its anniversary.it was offering a set dinner for two for 5000 rupees and our experience was quite good. i had read elsewhere that especially for the set meals the service is pretty bad and they get all the platters at the same time resulting in them getting cold. However, that did not occur in our case. They served each course separately and after we finished the course the wait staff would come and ask whether we wanted the next course to be served or whether we wanted to take some time and I found that really nice. As for the food the quantities were ample and we could not finish the food between the two of us ( although I presume that they were not serving the full portions since this was supposed to be an overview of the cuisine offered at the restaurant). They were offering a choice of two kinds of dimsums among four (we chose the two vegetarian ones, they were both outstanding , although only two dumplings to a basket). After this they served chicken sweet corn soup, which was average, the corns seemed to be taken out of a tin. Moving on to the main course, we were offered a plain egg fried rice, which was quite delicious. However, I feel they should have kept a noodles option. There was an aubergine and tofu dish which was the only dish which lacked flavor, the tofu was watery and the flavors had not seeped into it.The pan fried french beans was a sure winner and i will order it again when I go back. The thyme infused chicken claypot was also tasty but the star of the show was the raawas (fish). we could not stop eating it: it was juicy soft and packed with flavours. For desserts we both had ice creams.

As for location finding the place was not difficult for us since we already knew where it was but it might be difficult for others since there is no clear sign outside th building. It is on the 2nd Floor of some ICICI bank building. They offer valet parking but we discovered that our car was covered in bird/bat poo when we received it: parking must be under a tree or something.
