“Lovely new 5 star hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2010

Lovely new 5 star hotel on the way from the airport into the city. Good business location. Expensive and as usual looking out over the not quite 5 -star accomodation of the rest of the population.

Excellent italian restaurant with good service , good food and expansive wine list. Rooms are contemporary with stylish accents, love the Westin bed and free standing tub in the bathroom. Unfortunately location is v far from city , , commute is killing in this crazy metropolis...if u r on holiday then this is not a good choice..

As per the newer Westin's and this one is about 12 months old and the first Westin property in Mumbai they are all very modern and contemporary. This is no exception. The hardest thing to reconcile in India is just outside this hotel are pockets of the slum area (view the photos i took from the window of the hotel) and when you step inside you are in another world of total luxury. The good thing about this hotel is that there is also a high end mall (Oberoi Mall) next to it and is walking distance. As such if you are on business and do not go out beyond work and meetings - at least you do not need to take a car service or taxi in your free time you can spend it at the mall. The location though of this hotel is further up from Bandra and the airport and as such if you are required to get to South Mumbai or Bandra the traffic on the Western Highway at peak times can be very bad. However being a Starwood member and travelling at slightly off peak times I found this to be fine and it is worth the extra effort to stay at this hotel. One thing I do have to compliment Starwood on their SPG program is that in India and South East Asia in particular the hotels do adhere to their policies very well in looking after their top tiered members. Each of my stays I have been on I have been upgraded to a Suite. During this trip I had to fly between a few cities and stayed twice in this hotel and on both occassions they upgraded me to a suite. The suites as very nice with a huge living area and expansive wall to ceiling windows. The bedroom is also very spacious and as you can see from all the great comments on the Westin Heavenly bed this hotel is no exception. The interesting thing about this hotel is that their Westin Executive lounge is on the first floor and although very nice and spacious it does not have the views of other Westin lounges which traditionally use the higher floors. I think they have also put too many table and chairs where people can sit and it instead of sofas where people can sit and relax. However the space, decor and ambience is very good. The good news then for people that do not get access to the lounge is that they have put their restaurant where you have your buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner on the 18th floor. As such the views and wall to ceiling windows at this restaurant is very nice. Service at this hotel is inconsistent. There are excellent people going the extra mile like one of the managers at the restaurant who saw me looking for asian meals at the buffet suggested the chef to cook me some noodles which hit the spot and he then followed up with me as to whether that was suitable. On the inconsistency side - at any hotels in India especially the Indian chains like the Taj, Oberoi and Leela you are really spoilt and get treated like royalty. Well at the Westin it is a notch down. For example at breakfast having carried too many things I requested the staff to get me a watermelon juice only to be told that this was a self service buffet. I know I am getting little spoilt however I was not happy with this and as such showed my displeasure. Reluctantly the staff eventually brought it for me. However these are the difference that makes a great experience vs an ordinary one. The only other thing that I would say is that for some strange reason the lifts at this hotel are very slow. It can get frustrating at peak times hanging around waiting for the lifts. Small point though. All in all I do like this hotel in terms of their rooms, beds and ambience. However for the areas that I do need to get to and overall experience and the proximity to the airport - I would perhaps alternate between this hotel and the ITC near the airport. If Bandra is where you need to be then The Trident is the most convenient and the rooms are smaller however they are just as contemporary and nice.

We stayed in the Westin Mumbai Garden City for a month in Sept/Oct 2010.

Of the four hotels we have stayed at in Mumbai, this hotel was by far the best, and if we go back to Mumbai, we would stay there again. The other hotels were also good (Taj Lands End, Hyatt Regency Mumbai Airport, Le Meridien Mumbai Airport), but this hotel was just better.

Room Quality: The rooms were excellent - large, clean, and new.

Service: The service at the hotel was the best we experienced in India. The staff really worked to make our stay enjoyable. This included helping us to find a pharmacy with the milk formula we needed for our kids.

Business Center: The business center was modern and had the latest equipment, including xerox machines capable of producing PDF files. The center was willing to provide me with 5 copies per day, which I appreciated when I needed to prepare visa documents and when getting my itinerary to show at the airport.

Location: This could be an issue for some, but was great for us.

One of the appeals of the hotel for us was the fact that it is nearby the Oberoi Mall. This was great, since it meant we could go to the mall to get groceries, try the mall restaurants and stalls, and do shopping - without having to take a cab or autorickshaw. With two young babies, this was a blessing.

Another appeal is that the hotel is near the main highway, so one doesn't have to spend a lot of time on the local roads before getting on the highway. This is a problem with the Grand Sarovar Hotel that we also considered, and were thus glad we chose the Westin.

However, some travelers may find the hotel to be far from the main city - it takes a half-hour to get to Bandra, and nearly an hour to get to downtown mumbai. Taxi's are reasonable, and the lower room prices makes up for taxi fees, but if time is an issue, this might not be the right place.

Dining: The food in the hotel was good. The hamburger was the best I've had in a long time. The Oberoi Mall has many more good places, at a lower cost.

Value: in addition to being the best hotel we stayed at, it was also the best value. Being in the northern suburbs of Mumbai, the prices were much cheaper. The hotel also provides free internet in the lobby, and the proximity to the Oberoi Mall, provides a lot of convenience in terms of food choices and various services (money exchange).

All-in-all, we found this to be our best experience at a hotel in Mumbai, and would definitely plan on staying here again.

This Hotel has an excellent location, with an easy access to domestic airport. I am quite impressed by their room, nice bed, good food with a view restaurant and a well maintained swimming pool and Gym.
