“Review of Juhu Beach Novotel”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

The Juhu Beach Novotel is situated a "short" distance from the Mumbai airport which is great taking into consideration the traffic congestion in Mumbai. The hotel lobby area is neat and clean but it creates an impression of a very standard hotel. However the rooms are very comfortable and has all the modern facilities and comforts to make your stay a relaxing one. The person iron in the bedroom is welcome as we were on a longish trip and our packed clothes had become creased. The breakfast on offer has numeorus delicious options. The one thing that stood out at this hotel and actually all the hotels we stayed at in India was the great hospitality received form the staff. I did find that the room was a bit on the pricey side but this appears to be something you will have to contend to if you want good accommodation in India.

The Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach is in my opinion a high quality hotel on a really good rate.
It is situated on the beach, so I guess its for both, business travellers and holidayers.
Its got everything I needed, a really nice spa, a sauna and an outdoor swimming pool.
Also, there is four different restaurants. (international, mediterranean, chinese and regional). Im telling you, you dont wanna miss out on the regional cuisine, its ooooh sooo good!

This was my first trip back to my hometown since I left in 1968. I remember Juhu beach and the Sun & Sand hotel I had spent time in, all those years ago. I was suprised at the number of up market hotels that are now established along the beach. After much research I chose the Novotel. I booked an ocean view room from which I had a view that was exactly as I had hoped it would be. I could not fault the level of service, the room or the resturants. All of this made the 5 night stay a memorable one. I would recommend this hotel to all as I will be back in a few months, hopefully for a longer stay.

Update 2/12: I got another super deal (pre-paid on the Novotel site) and was happy to return to the Novotel. This time was not the great experience we had the first time. One of our neighbors must have had jet lag for several nights because his/her TV was playing through our walls at all hours. The breakfast buffet was especially crowded - barely enough seating for the guests - food was slow to be replenished - and one morning it took 20 minutes to get a first cup of coffee. Minor details that we tried not to let aggravate us. Front desk service is still excellent. Would still book the Novotel - it's the best deal in Juhu!

We'd stayed in 3 different hotels on Juhu Beach during our times in Mumbai. We'd only eaten in the Novotel previously. When booking for our recent trip, I was quite surprised to see the high prices for our "regular" hotel. When I checked the Novotel, they were offering a deal for pre-paying, which was 50-75% off the other rates so I booked a king room.

A few years ago, this was an old Holiday Inn. It has been completely renovated and is a super hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and fairly spacious - king bed, flat screen TV, chair and ottoman, work desk & chair, safe, refrigerator, coffee/tea maker, and a view of Juhu Beach. The bathroom had a wonderful rain shower, good space, and nice toiletries.

The lobby is open and spacious - and very understated - plenty of chairs and couches, a fountain, and big flowers. There are 2 computers for (free) use. (Internet room packages are available - more time = less per hour.) The staff are excellent - very attentive. Food is excellent - several different restaurants/cuisines and huge buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The pool area is really nice - with plenty of palm trees, a view of the Arabian Sea and lots of lounge chairs. Small sofas separate the pool area and the bar - which is a great place for drinks at night.

This hotel is by far the best hotel in Juhu (yes, it is even better than the favorite, JW Marriott - and a fraction of the cost!). This will be the only place I stay on return trips to Mumbai.

By the way, the deal I booked was $122 without breakfast. I recently checked additional dates and it was $143 with breakfast (for two) - a super deal!! (Huge breakfast buffet cost about $30 for two.)

We've just got back from a five night stay and would definitely book this place again! The management were very responsive to my requests, particularly when they arranged for a birthday cake and a bottle of wine to be delivered to our room in advance of our arrival! The cake was delicious! My summary below:

Pros
- excellent service, helpful concierge! Regularly booked restaurants, managed our shopping deliveries
- high powered showers in the room
- nice clean rooms
- fantastic breakfast, really enjoyed the Indian and Western variety, especially the Aloo and Paneer Parothas and excellent views of the sea an pool if you sit outside
- free WIFI as we noticed not all of the hotels in India offer this for free

Some minor cons...
- view of the 'infinity pool' from our room. This is a patch of land where there is a filthy pool of water, I accept this is beyond the hotel's control as they don't own this but hopefully if more people complain something can be done about this
- Gadda De Vidda, pleasant place to have a drink but not happy about the minimum spend of Rs 1000 per person, although we did spend a lot more than that, I felt this minimum spend should not apply to hotel guests! Also agree with a previous review that some Indian music should be played, after all we are in the home of the global Indian film industry!

Overall I really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this, we payed just over £90 with breakfast which is good value considering the brand, location and excellent service!

Checked into a standard room which had stained window frames (see pics), a stained sink, pen marks on the wall, the bathroom phone wires were cut and exposed, the leather bed frame was ripped. We immediately upgraded to a premier room for a premium and that was a standard, bearable room until one morning, we were woken with the sound of drilling next door. We had to call reception 4 times to get it stopped! The restaurant area downstairs is being refurbished so a bit of a building site right now. The sun and sand hotel next door looked much more appealing! This hotel also comes with strict rules and boundaries for anyone wishing to have a relaxed and enjoyable holiday. No guests after 10pm, no vests when swimming and no access to the pool area for relaxation late at night. All in all, the lowest score I've given a hotel yet and the worst hotel I've ever stayed at.

On the plus side, the premier room was of a respectable standard and bearable. Everything you'd expext from a 3*-4* room. Just not premier! Much better hotels in Juhu than this.

It felt like a very good 3* hotel, not a 4* star though as they're were too many holes to pick and it didn't feel great.

Room Tip: Stay Premier for a basic standard you can tolerate.
