This is the most attractive of all locations in Mumbai- for the eye sores of concrete that whole of Mumbai is, otherwise! Preferred time to visit is early morning and most beautiful during rains. Sundays should be avoided due to extra crowd of revellers during raining season. A guide from the ASI counter at the entrance is preferred- many locals act to be guide but do not have right knowledge.

There are bikes to rent at the entrance of the National Park, which is ok priced (40Rs. an hour, min 2 hours) so total expense should be around 120-160Rs. and you can roam around the park including the caves at your leisure.

Tucked away right at back of sanjay gandhi national park. Huge set of caves, very steep and many uneven steps...not for the elderly.

Go with a guide or locals or you will be hassled for pictures. Saw this happen to a few groups of foreigners...although this happens all over mumbai I would recommend especially as this is quite remote area.

This historically important monument is located inside Sanjay gandhi National Park in Borivali. It is a beautiful place to visit for picnics or treks. It becomes super awesome during the monsoons with plenty of greenery and waterfalls. Monkeys, Buddhist caves and nature, this place has it all

This is located 10 km from Borivalli, East in Mumbai. The cave is well carved and the remains are still fresh and fantastic. It is a Buddhist culture cave. It is located amidst the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivalli. It is considered to be built in the first century BC. It was so peaceful and serene. You can get buses at the entrance of Sanjay Gandhi National Park and visit this place. It is located within city and well connected by buses, trains and autos / taxis. However, it is very difficult to climb up and remember it is equally difficult to come down as well.

So peaceful and serene-we went first thing in the morning. My friends from Bombay who took me there were also surprised at how close to the city such tranquility existed!!
We had a brilliant time. We didn't walk up all the way but I'm sure with enough time it would have been fun. We took a van instead that was pretty cheap and fast:)
Only shame was the littering but that's not the caves' fault!
Fix up litter-ers!
