“A piece of history in Mumbai”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

These are typical Buddhist caves right in the middle of the metropolis. You can see the ancient carvings surrounded still by a small jungle.

“Forgotten Jewels”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

It's strange that a place of such historical significance which is with the city of Mumbai is ignored by so many. A must visit place for locals and tourists. The best time to go would be post monsoons, which beautify the whole drive up to the caves. Check the timings before you go as it shuts quite early.

“Worth visiting!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

Kanheri caves in the national park are definitely worth visiting as a small hike. The caves have been kept in decent condition but could have been maintained better. They are on a small hill top and require a 20-30 mins climb. A waterfall forms during monsoons and the place really looks beautiful.

“breathtaking views of mumbai”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

went to the caves with large family. found ample free parking at the base of the caves. There are numerous caves (around 75) which are reached climbing stairs. There are steps to a hill overlooking Mumbai. There you get breathtaking views of Borivili (Northern Mumbai), Vihar and Powai lakes and the Global Vipasanna Pagoda. The entrance fee to the caves is around $0.30 for Indians and $5 for non Indians. Lots of Rhesus monkeys, especially in the mornings. There a small restaurant near the Parking lot where you can purchase bottled water for $1. There are supposedly several hikes 5-9 km long starting from the caves but these are not well marked and we could not not find the trailheads. All in all worth visiting these ancient caves.

“worth a visit, but beware of the Heat !”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

we went there mid morning, and by the time we reached the top it was noon. It can be very tiring, hence start early in the day. Go in a big group, as the area can be secluded, and some idiots can be found hanging around all the time. The carving of Lord Buddha is awesome, and so is the coolness u experience when u enter the huge cave next to the statue. Worth a visit, only if you are game for walking quite a bit.
