“A most convenient location in more ways than one.”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

This hotel, even though only rated as 3*, surpassed its rating in hospitality. Not only are the staff all very sufficiently accommodating, the rooms are clean, modern and reasonable in size. It is perfectly located for shopping in the Santa Cruz , Bandra and Linking Road areas. For those devotees of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, in Khar, it is great, as its a short 10-15 min walk away. We also enjoyed a walk to the Khar station, approx 10 min away. The breakfast is simple, with a combination of intercontinental and Indian menu. With divine hot dosas and idlis, there is no reason for complaint. For our requirements on this trip, everything about this hotel was perfect.

Stayed there for a few nights

Here is my review:

1) The Hotel offers a complimentary pickup from Airport, on arrival the driver and car and someone else was waiting for me outside the terminal and we got to the hotel in around 50mins from airport (mainly due to it being peak time and the traffic being horrendous) but nice Pickup in AC Car - Checkin was a breeze

2) Location - The hotel itself is hidden away on some small road between Linking Road and some other main road not easy to find when driving and you can easily walk past it easily without noticing it but nonetheless its about couple minutes away from Linking Road (where you got all the shops mcd, kfc etc) As you exit the hotel turn right walk straight on for about 3-4 mins and linking road is there and also for those want to go to a mosque Khar Masjid is about 8 min walk away exit the hotel turn left walk straight on then turn right to the main road and walk straight on and Khar Masjid is there
MCD is nearby too once you come to linking road on the crossing turn left and walk for about 5 mins along the main busy road) plenty of shops and places nearby walking further up you have subway etc! So plenty to do in terms of location wont get dissapointed..juhu beach is about 20 min rickshaw ride and cost 50 rupees (well worth visiting)

3) Room - Room was nice and comfortable i got a double bed although facing some flats (but that was not too much of a bother for me) AC condition and Bathroom (although a bit small but quite clean) There are over 500 TV channels and you can easily spend one hour just flicking through them! Also got complimentary 2 bottles of Water and coffee tea making facilities and there is also a safe in the room. Overall Decor is quite good not as warm as Western style but for India its fine
free newspaper aswell in the morning - you tend to hear Prayer for Fajr in the morning too!

4) Breakfast - Superb! This was included in my package and was excellent selection of Indian Food like Puri, bread, Vegatable curries, Cook you masala dosa on demand and also omlette, lovely selection of juices (mango, lime, orange, apple, milkshakes etc) and vegetarian curry - its veggie only but declious and enough to keep you going for a day - make use of the breakfast its really worth it!!

if you want to get around you can easily pickup rickshaws from outside the hotel - trip to airport via rickshaw costed approx 60 rupees - i prefer rickshaw rather then taxis much better and they seem to get their quicker weaving in and out of the traffic

Would i go back again = Yes
Will i recommend = Yes

We stayed at the oriental for a week this past March. The location is very convenient as it is minutes away from all the major shoppng areas in Mumbai. Staff was extremely courteous and always ready to help.
The rooms are small but well appointed. Room service was great.
The airport shuttle was prompt and most reliable. All the staff went outof their way to ensure that we had a comfortable stay. Overall, it was convenient, safe, clean and we Will definitely return.

The hotel by itself and some of their staff are good but there are some problems with some of the receptionists and particularly the hotel's technical details.

When I reached here on a business trip, the Internet was not working. My company does not issue data-cards so I so my travel department had booked a hotel that provided Wi-Fi Internet. I had specifically mentioned the same. However, upon reaching the hotel, the receptionist told me that the Internet is not working and that he will have it up and running next morning. Now, its a big pain if the Internet does not work when you are on a business trip as you need to access and send important e-mails. Next morning, the Internet was again not working. Before leaving for work, I told him to have it up and running by evening and called before returning to ensure that it was up. But the person told it was not up yet - they did not live up to their commitment. I had to escalate it internally within our Travel dept and the hotel's management to finally get it working that night. Then they said that they charge Rs 100 per hour and Rs 300 for 24 hours of Internet, and even the speed was not good. I mean, that is an outrageous cost! Even a dedicated 1 or 2 Mbps line costs Rs 1200 for a month, so how can a shared connection with slow speed in some Kbps be worth 300 per day?

Also, when I asked them to book a cab for me to go to my workplace, the taxi driver did not go by the meter and charged Rs 400. While returning, I took a metered cab which cost me Rs 163 only - less than half. Surely, the hotel has been making unjustifiable profit by this taxi business also. Next day, I asked them to book a Meru cab for me and the daytime receptionist flatly refused and he mentioned that I should call Meru on my own! That was rude and stupid. I insisted, and he called Just Dial to get Meru's number, trying to show me that he is going through so much effort. I mean, Meru has a standard number valid all over India and that's well known.

The night-time receptionists were more friendly and helpful. Also, the room service is good and the restaurants are nice.

Never go here on business trips.

Room Tip: Choose a sunny room

I stayed here for 4 nights during a family wedding and was given a room on the 5th floor. The hotel was clean and staff good. The room is an ok size and i had no problems. The bathroom was clean and the shower hot and powerful. If i was to have one issue it was that my room was facing the back of the hotel and close to a local Mosque. The Mosque would start prayers over the loud tannoy speaker very early on some days (sometimes as early as 4-5am) and this often woke me up. To avoid this i would ask for a room on the opposite side in future unless you obviously want to listen to the prayers. Bar this i have no issues with the hotel and the location is very good to the local hotspots.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the Mosque to avoid being woken up early

We stayed there for 3 weeks and enjoyed the various aspects of it. A little on the steeper side of the room rate compared to hotels in this category (internationally comparing) but other than that it was charming in all other aspects. It's biggest plus is the staff...from reception, to breakfast buffet/SOUL restaurant, to house-keeping, and all. They try hard to please and meet your needs. The room accommodations are clean and adequate. Not the most spacious but functional, even if on a bit smaller side. Bathroom was very clean. Showers were very comfortable (water pressure, hot water, etc). Always a clean set of towels was provided daily. Overall, we'd go back there again on our next trip, if we can again get a good rate. Its location close to Linking Road shopping, Bandra area, and Juhu Beach may also be plus for some. travelers.

A good place to stay, on business travel as the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The rooms are small so a but congested to move around. but all the basic amenities are available and well taken care of. The food is good and they had a decently good spread for the breakfast.
