“Some notable flaws in an otherwise beautiful property”
Reviewed July 23, 2007

I stayed here on a 2 day excursion to Mysore. Overall, the property itself was as nice as the pictures you see on their internet site. Grounds are meticulously maintained, and it is clear they take pride in the appearance of the resort.

Check-in was fast and courteous. They wanted to make sure I was comfortable. After staying there my first night, I saw some glaring shortcomings.

First, the hotel is in the middle of mosquito central. It is CRITICAL that you have a mosquito oil lamp in your room, otherwise you'll be eaten alive. I did not have one in my room, and was eaten. The hotel staff was suprised to see my room was not stocked with on. Too late for me!

Second, when things were wrong with the room, they settled for short term fixes rather than fixing the room. The lock on my door was very sticky and the door hard to open. Rather than fix the lock, they kept sending up someone to bang on the door for 5 minutes. After several iterations of this, I asked for a new room, and they politely moved me.

The restaurant serves Thai, Chinese, India, and some western food. Quality is decent, prices seemed somewhat high. I had trouble getting attentive service sometimes, but this could be more a culture thing than a shortcoming with the hotel.

Overall, the Windflower is a nice and beautiful hotel. I ran into some irritating issues. Had this been positioned as an average hotel in mysore, I'd probably offer a higher rating, but since they position themselves as one of the top hotels, they are held to a higher standard, and modestly missed the mark on my visit.

It was an excellent getaway and I was so pleasantly surprised. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and it was just a perfect place.

The continental dishes at Le Olive Garden needs help and some heating for the swimming pool is a definite must

I stayed at the Windflower on Dec 2006. The Hotel is new and has been well designed to fit into the existing area. It is welll run, with a friendly and willing staff. The natural pool is outstanding and being outside the limits of the noisy city, the area, with many birds on show, can be quite idylic. The City of Mysore is still adjacent and one can visit the Market (a must) and the Palace easily from the Windflower. The rooms ae are new and reasonably furnished. The only criticism that I would make is that the bed side lights are on the floor and that makes it difficult to read in bed (A must for me and my wife) The food is good especially if you are into Indian food. We both enjoyed our stay at the Windflower and intend staying there in the future.

Stayed December 2006

We stayed in this resort during the first week of May 2007. The main attraction of this resort (as the name suggests) is the SPAs offered.

The full body SPA's here are very relaxing and the massage therapists seemed to be very trained in what they do. The massages are done by 2 therapists rythymically which adds to the relaxation. There is a "SPA service menu" in each of the rooms which details all the services available.

We stayed in a "delux" room and we booked the room by calling the property up. No credit card info was taken as a guarantee.
The room was BIG, with a sit out area and an open air shower.. which is quite an experience. The bed in the room was huge and the room had good facilities like locker/ fridge etc. But i felt it was not worth the price they charge for it in a place like Mysore.

The restraunt in the resort seems to be quite popular in the neighbourhood as it took us about 30 mins to get a table for 2. The room service takes atleast 35 mins for any kind of order. The breakfast (incl. in the room tarif) has a loot of options and well prepared.

The resort is just about 20 mins from the Chamundeshwari devi Temple.

A good concept but poorly built and poorly run! The overall setting around an ornamental pool is good, but the villas are poorly finished inside, with lots of maintenance problems showing already. The staff were always buzzing around but often failed to deliver. The pool is a design disaster, in a hole with no views, and ongoing maintenance work throughout our stay.

The restaurant is the best feature -- the food was good and not expensive in a very pleasant setting.

Despite its problems this may still be the best place to stay in Mysore. We had a drink at the Lalitha Mahal and it felt like a morgue!

This is a lovely hotel. The rooms are beautifully furnished and overlook a large square lake/pond. The grounds are immaculate.

My daughter was very excited by the giant chess set, although the chess pieces were starting to show signs of wear.

The restaurant, Le Olive Garden, served great food at reasonnable prices. The breakfast was a bit ordinary but didn't really detract from the overall experience.

The pool is a bit shady and tucked away and would benefit from being heated. The "waterfall" is fun though.

A friend recommended I visit Mysore for the palaces and advised staying at The Windflower. I wasn't expecting such a beautiful resort in the middle of Mysore- it was lovely. I was in definate need of some rest and relaxation after the bustle of travelling through the country and this place delivered. The balinese styled rooms are spacious and beautifully decked out. The bathrooms are also big with good showers, also available with an outdoor shower which I unfortunately couldn't take advantage of because the weather was a bit cold! Staff are helpful and agree with the other comments re. the waiters/ staff at the restaurant on site- Le Olive Garden- the food was so good I ate all my meals there (having ventured out a couple of times to nearby hotels for dinner just confirmed that Le Olive Garden has the edge on cuisine in the area). If you love spa treatments then you're in for a treat- I had quite a few treatments and each one was bliss- the highlights were the massages- having my feet washed in rose milk when opting for a head massage was unexpected and a lovely touch to the treatment- it just hit the spot. Would def recommend The Windflower to anyone travelling through the South- take some time out to chill and indulge yourself- fantastic!

  • Liked — Spacious rooms, clean large shower with lovely toilettries
  • Disliked — If you're a solo traveller this is a cool place to chill out and re-energise- don't expect to meet lots and lots of other backpackers
