“Decent room, less a resort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

The images of the hotel could be very deceiving. The place is there in a dhaba-like setup, with a collection of small rooms where one could stay. It doesn't classify as a resort by any means.

The rooms themselves are decent and clean and have an A/C. However some things did not work as expected. In our first room the Geyser didn't work and they shifted us to a second room where there was a common door between our room and the adjacent one and was a lot of noise and disturbance.

The staff were courteous, but had no professional training and did not know what "service with a smile" means.

Food was substandard and due to the bar-like atmosphere they probably only specialize in drinks and chicken starters. Luckily, there is a decent hotel across the main road where we could go for food.

The location itself is good. It is in a quiet part of town while no being more than 30mins drive from the center of the city. So connectivity was good.

I wouldn't think of this as a family place, but more of a pit-stop for those travelling via Mysore. It gives off a motel like experience than a hotel.

Me and my friends traveled to Mysore for a fun trip. We chose to stay at monarch as they are a well known brand in Ooty as well. Took 2 Rooms stayed 3 Nights and had an Excellent service from the very co-operative staff. Will choose to stay at Monarch Mysore in future as well and will recommend to family and friends. Food is good. Swimming Pool is well maintained too.. Had a Good stay in Monarch, Mysore..........

Swimming pool was not working.
Lot of mosquito in the rooms.
Bath Tub & Sink has cracks.
Both side of the hotel, there are Noisy factories.
Food & Service is good.
Hotel management is supportive, they compensated us for swimming pool with a complementary breakfast.

Stayed there as a part of a night halt and headed out next afternoon. Cottages really need a face lift from inside.Lots of open space and greenery. Location was also perfect, with this being on the outskirts of mysore.

What made this place special was the staff - extremely courteous, helpful, warm and always extending an helping arm. Great job by Mr.Basha and the whole team.

The place is on Mysore Mercara road/ more known as Coorg road or Hunsur road and not in the center of the city as shown in the map
Also the name of the hotel is Hotel Monarch, and not Howard Johnson Inn . If you are entering Mysore from Bangalore, follow directions to Bannimantap and then ask for Hunsur road, you need not enter Mysore.
Parking is spacious, and as you enter you see a big lawn with cottages on the other end and restaurants on the right.
They have all independent cottages, in the evening you can put chairs out and sit under the sky. The front portion of the place is a nice big lawn with few pet rabbits roaming freely. Rooms are decently clean, bathroom was small, but manageable. Since you get an individual cottage, staying with pet is very comfortable. The restaurant is adjacent to the lawn and gets crowded in the night, most of them appeared to be regular visitors which may restrict your access to the lawn in the night.
Car parking is spacious.
Adjacent to the hotel is a car workshop and was quite noisy till about 7 pm.
Quality of the food and service was good. On the whole a good experience, if you are travelling to Ooty or Coorg via Mysore and wants a stop over at Mysore it is an excellent place. If you are a vegetarian then there is an excellent only vegetarian restaurant across the road.
Overall good experience and would stay again.

Actually my friend recommended it to me. It was nice weekend to enjoy with my partner. I pursued it online and stumbled upon the feedback given by earlier travelers on this website. The rooms are clean, the service unobtrusive and efficient, the staff very friendly and helpful, the attached restaurant has great south Indian food, the rooms though between two busy streets are practically sealed of from outside noise.
Surely, a right choice.

Had been here with my friend.Excellent cottages though not the best tradtional ones..but interestingly modern. The service is a draw back. A bit sluggish.Food is good enough with a nice variety of options.

Perfect for a nice one night stay nd have a couple of drinks in the great mysore weather.
