Owner description: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

Difficult what to write when reviewing a zoo, you all know the idea behind these places.Walking about, look at some animals you wouldn't expect to see every day or in the back yard.

This is a very well kept zoo,the animals were all pretty impressive, my favorites were Asiatic Lion, Bengal Tiger, Gorilla , African Elephant and Green Anaconda.

Pros: Easily access from any part of Mysore, Very cheap ticket ,The zoo has mostly all the animals that are rarely seen in other zoo and all the animals are kept in great environments.

“Visit to the Zoo with Kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

A must visit if your heading towards Mysore. They have done a fabulous job of maintaing and running this zoo. Weekends are crowded. If you have a small kid then take a stroller so its easier. You can spend more than 2 hours over here. Go after 3pm as the animals tend to come out during that time...

“Snapshot of Nature”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

All the animals in the nursery book!! Yes all of them including the only Gorilla in South Asia (he was sleeping though and we had a kind security lady to show us where he was taking a nap); fantastic apiary; lions and the Giraffes up close and so huge. Nearly touched the Jaguar and got the sandwich stolen by a rhesus monkey outside the Lions den! Wow 3 km of fun getting tired. Take a bus if you are not interested in seeing the animals in detail!!

well managed. Good time for children. If you are travelling with family, best place to visit. Weekends are more crowded.
