Owner description: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

The Zoo is one of th oldest Zoos of the world. The zoo has anacondas, giraffes, zebras, lions, tigers, white rhinoceroses, baboons, elephents, bisons etc. It is spread over an extent of about 250 acres. The best thing is, it is situated in the center of the city unlike other Zoos which are away from the city limits. Easily approchable by walk or other cheap conveyances, by the public

Visited the Place with my Kids and niece. They are 16,14 & 12. They enjoyed themselves. I did too :-)
Very few animals in Indian zoo's today. The crowed at the zoo was huge, even though it was a week day. I don't like being crowded :-)
All the animals look healthy. My kids were wondering whether the African Rhino has been shot, since he had a sizeable hole in his butt.
As with Indian zoos, one cannot take any snacks in. The quality of stuff available there is nothing to write home about...

“One of the nicer Zoo's we've visited”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

We didn't have alot of time to visit the zoo since we got there at about 3PM and it closes at 5. Despite that we had a very enjoyable trip and were able to see most of the animals. Very well laid out, highlight for us was the Giraffes.

“Pretty good - well organized and maintained - tourist friendly”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

So i went to Mysore Zoo in April, skeptical about touring it in the peak summer heat.

The Zoo is very well organized. The staff and caretakers at the zoo are quite friendly and helpful. I found it to be very tourist friendly.

One of the best things is that for Rs.100/ per head you can rent an electric buggy to tour the zoo. It takes about an hour - a little less on time, but saves all the pain of roaming in swelting heat!

The zoo was spick and span, with no rubbish anywhere.

A few things that can improve would be that the buggy drivers are not as interested in you having a good sight of the animals. They want to ensure your ride is over in 1 hr.
Also, a few zoo map boards would help.

Apart from that, the collection of animals, the over cleanliness and facilities makes it a good tourist friendly zoo.
