Being a resident of Mysore, I have visited this temple on the Kapila river bank, about 26 kms. from our place, a number of times. This is a very old temple. On Mondays (especially in Karthik month) it will be very crowded. The presiding deity is Shiva. Other deities found here are Subrahmanya, Ganesha, Saraswathi, Parvathi, Sathyanarayana, Anjaneya, Navagrahas and Nataraja. There is also a huge Nandi (bull). In the peripheral corridor, you find a number of very sharply sculpted beautiful idols of Shiva in different forms. The one of Markhandeya, Yama on his buffalo and Shiva erupting from the linga is very good. On the upper portion of the walls you also find beautiful paintings depicting various mythological stories related to Shiva. Earlier there wasn't much arrangements for the pilgrims; but in the last decade, the temple got renovated and there are rooms, dormitories and cottages and also pay & use bath and lavatories for the pilgrims.

Built by the Maharaja's of Mysore, this temple is on the bank of Kabini River. Its presiding diety is lord nanjanjudeshwara along with his concert Parvathi.
The belief has it that after the 'samudra Manthana', the churning of the Ocean with mountain using the serpent adishesha, when emerge goddess lakshmii, Indra's elephant eiravatha, lots of weath, nectar, finally came deadly poison. all the dieties approach lord shiva to save them. Shiva swalow this deadly poison and parvathi holds his neck that poison does not enter his body. But his head turns blue. Deadly poison in kannada is called 'nanju' and hence his name 'Nanjundeshwara'. All travelers going to bandipur and Ooty can visit Nanjangud.
