Visited on 5 dec, 2014. One of the excellent examples of the fine art and sculpture of medicinal India . Unfortunately most of the sculptures were ruined by ala-ud din khilji n malik kafur (as told by the guide) . It was heart-rendering to see such beautiful art n heritage spoiled. As the sculptures are broken, the temple is no longer worshipped and so is a national monument with some of the idols undergoing restoration.the entry ticket to the monument was only Rs 5 where as the parking ticket was Rs 25 and the guide took Rs 300 ...the guide took only 25 mins but it was worthwhile. The wonderful star-fish shape design, the idols of dasavtaras of Vishnu, the wonderful amalgamation of Aryan and Dravidian architecture , the beautiful pillars with elephants, horse-riders, flowers and soldiers etched magnificently and the intricate carvings are a treat to watch ! A wonderful monument !

This small but fantastic temple is the most important attraction to see in Mysore. You can easily spend a couple of hours, so take your time. The temple is very well restored and maintained. Architecture, bas-reliefs, statues, need I say more. Definitely worth the visit. Do not be alarmed about a possible long road trip; you'll forget that in a second once your inside.

Somnathpur is a small village on the banks of the river Cauvery that was founded by the commander of the Hoyasala army, Somnath. The village is famous for its splendid and grand Keshava temple that has been built in the Hoyasala style. The temple is famous for its elaborate and intricate sculpturing. The temple is enclosed in a walled courtyard that has a gate and a porch. The temple is built on an elevated star shaped platform.
