“Good day out from Mysore”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

This monastery was built by exiled Tibetan monks who fled to India when China annexed Tibet. The complex has a number of amazing temples and nice gardens. It makes a change to other temples and mosques in India as it is entirely Buddhist.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

This place is absolutely beautiful and a must visit when in this region. The atmosphere is peaceful unlike most hindu temples. The statues of the buddha are absolutely stunning. Take some time and try to talk with some of the young monks to learn a bit about buddhism.

“Peaceful place and exceptionally beautiful”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

Please remember that it is place of worship and you are expected to follow the simple rules - avoiding the use of your mobile phone (still you can carry your phone), keeping the discussion volumes low while observing the structures and paintings and ofcourse leaving your footwear outside (There is a counter where you can keep your footwear safely for just INR 2 per pair).

Tip: If you are into exploring different cultures then ensure that you have atleast 4-5 hours for this place

Tibetan Buddhism is embossed with vibrant colors everywhere. Grand scale statues and paintings (3D and 2D) were the highlights of this place. The richness of the culture was visible in every inch of this place.
The statues in the main temple premises were huge and you will understand easily why it is called as golden temple.

After appreciating all the beauty and effort of the place we decided to try some local food. There was a canteen (there are probabilities of missing that small board) and we tried some noodles and egg rice from that place. Food was just okay neither the finest nor the worst.

All in all, it was a wonderful (second time) experience. The place is calm and very nicely maintained.

P.S. There were paid washrooms available in the shopping complex outside the temple premises.
