Chitravana resort is on the Nanjangud Road and is around 12 kms from the heart of the city. This resort offers a varied experience to a visitor. The resort is nestled inbetween thickly wooded junle of Bamboo and cedar. Being just next to the highway, one does not expect such a scenic green ambience. The resort holds some excellent cottages, though not as competetive in comfort or services. However it has an excellent restaurant with cubicles for seating thus ensuring adequate privacy amid green sorrounding and chirping of birds. Food is quite spicy and has chettinad style cuisines. Service is wonderful and one does not mind a little delay because of the ambience and privacy.

The service was good. A very nice place to be at leisure time.
Room is ok not very bad.
Location and amenities are too good.
Evening time would be the best to spend time, as there will be music and dance programme.
Food is ok for the price.

We went to have a weekend get together and this hotel looked perfect because of its location, but the sevice was not good and the cleancliness is not upto the mark. Need some improvement from the management.
Still its a decent hotel for weekend outing.

So off we went, driving the distance from Bangalore to Mysore, expecting to spend the next couple of days at a picturesque resort in the jungle area on the outskirts of the city.

At the check-in counter (just enter the gate and it's to your left), the lady asked us to pay the entire amount in advance but when we declined, agreed to accept one day's tariff only. The winding road to our cottage was merely a clearing through the thick vegetation that surrounded us. Everything looked very green! The cottage walls were made of stone (or was the outside just stone paneling?) and the large swimming pool, which has just been cleaned, looked sparkling blue and inviting.

Then we entered our cottage, and the disappointments piled up. For one, the rooms are small, and the awful design somehow managed to minimize floor space and maximize bumping into walls. The floor had coarse, grainy dust all over, and looked like it hadn't been swept in days. The bed was old and creaky. Everything smelled damp, from the bed sheet to the towels, as though they had been hastily put into place before being fully dried off. The TV was ancient and the remote channel switching buttons were dead - we had to manually enter the channel numbers to channel surf.

And the bathroom? It was more spacious than expected. However, the first time I turned on the tap, there was a strong sulphurous smell followed by various other rotten smells that would waft in through the open windows. By the end of the day, after our ablutions had added to the assorted smells, there was such a stink there that none of us dared venture in without a face mask!

The only thing that made this place bearable was taking a walk outside. The tall trees and thick foliage made being outdoors a joy. Still, we couldn't help but notice the lackluster attitude of the staff, who were going about their work without enthusiasm.

The multi cuisine restaurant does have a wide variety of dishes on offer. We tried both North Indian food and some heavenly biryani. But the other reviewer on here who mentioned stained tablecloths was right on the mark!

NIght-time in that cold, unventilated room between damp sheets wasn't a lot of fun. We couldn't open the door for fear of the many mosquitoes (which is understandable, considering our location).

Overall, the experience was uninspiring. This has to be the least value-for-money place I've ever stayed in, and I've traveled in and around South India for 10 years!! Inviting nature doesn't have to mean shunning basic hygiene. My 7-year old nicknamed it a "royal dustbin", and I can't agree more. The City of Palaces had far better accommodation waiting for us after we checked out the next morning!

-- The place and stay was good.
-- The food service was the worst I have ever seen. The people serving food were as less courteous as possible. The first day when we went in, lunch was served with a delay of at least an hour. Each dish was served at a snail's pace. The orders were not taken properly. Serving water first was never the practice.
-- The breakfast the next day which was meant to be complimentary was rather a gimmick. Each of the items take at least 30 minutes. Can you imagine waiting for idlis for 30 minutes? Also, the stewards were so remorseless of the fact that they are serving at their own pace. We were delayed by at least a couple of hours because of them.
-- When we complained to the person who owned the place, instead of trying to understand the situation, he says, this is a practical problem. I have not seen such audacious behavior in the service industry as yet. Go if you like at your own risk and if you would like to starve.

A group of our friends entered this resort as a leisure trip. The environment was fantastic. The entrance to the resort was curved and full of greenery. We rushed to the food court first after parking our vehicles, since we were very hungry. We could see a wide variety of food options available on the menu. Each one of us started ordering food. It did not take much time to get our food and it was yummy. Be it south Indian or north Indian or continental, the taste was superb. Later we headed to have a look around the resort. We were supplied with some play items such as volley ball, shuttle badminton kit and cricket kit. The play field was huge and everyone could play what they liked. Then we went for a walk around the resort. The greenery was fantastic. Over-all, the we had a great time.

It was an weekend stay for us, started from heavy traffic Bangalore. We reached the place around 11am. For our surprise the place was better than what we thought. A cool relaxing, nature frinedly place. This resort is located around 12kilomerters from Mysore in HD Kote road. The place is so good that I will visit this place again and again.
