Waste of time except the temple. not even maintained. all devastated and looted - nothing left there to see. Handicraft shops are very expensive.

This is definitely worth a trip out with a taxi for a few hours as there is plenty to see and lots of history in this region. Many different tourist sites worth seeing within the walls of the old city and lots nearby. Can get very busy with local travelers from Bengaluru on the weekend but you won't be disappointed if you negotiate a good price with a taxi to take you there and back.

Tipu sultan's summer palace

Visited on 5 dec, 2014. Small but wonderful palace is a museum now. The entry ticket is only Rs 5 . The park is well maintained. Somewhat looks like the garden of the Taj Mahal . The trees are unique owing to tipu sultan's taste for nature. The museum show cases pictures of tipu, his Darbar, his sons, his defeat at srirangapatnam and his generals and legal advisor. The wall contains the paintings of the Darbar of Hyder Ali and tipu sultan and the procession of nizam of hyderabad. The museum also contains a table and a few chairs of tipu's time. One of the most wonderful artefact is the portrait of tipu sultan painted by thomas hickey in 1780 approx depicting tipu sultan in 3 D . The face n the shoes turn towards you from whichever direction you look at it. Photography is not allowed inside the museum. You are allowed to take the photographs of the canons , the canon balls and the trees outside the museum.

Gumbaz tipu's mausoleum

Only 3 kms from tipu's summer palace in srirangapatnam. Contains tombs of tipu (draped in the tiger covering) , his father Hyder Ali (draped in saffron ) and his mother fatima inside the main building. Outside are the graves of his family members. If u are in srirangapatnam, you must pay homage to the great warrior. There's no entry ticket. The shoe-keeper charges only Rs 2 per pair.

This wonderful piece of forgotten history of Tipu Sultan outside the city of Mysore is worth a visit, followed by Tipu Sultan's summer palace, which was not destroyed by the British so that they could live in it...!!
