It's a grand old hotel, but probably best to go for morning tea at most...as eating an overpriced meal in an almost empty banquet hall was really not very appealing. The service was pretty good, and food wasn't bad, but was very average for the price. Inspite of the grand old room, it lacked atmosphere.. they need more music, crowd & better food or better value to make it more appealing.

The only good thing about this hotel is the architecture. Being an old palace, they have maintained the old charm and beauty. The restaurant as such is a poor place. I opted for a buffet lunch (around 700 INR). The variety was very very few and even the food didn't even taste good (forget about being great). Service was terrible too. Keep off from this place for eating. Just go and admire the palace ambience.

The restaurant is located on the ground floor of this majestic palace, however the inside of the restaurant didn't look much better than an old school assembly hall. Looks aside we concentrated on the food. The food wasn't at all impressive, rather less than what you could get from any curry house in London. The service seemed to almost play on the stereotypical ideas of how the 'British' dine. Serving bread rolls at the start of our meal. It wasn't exactly what we were looking for in India.

The place only had one other table occupied. There were no locals dining here. The prices were also steep for what we got.

The next morning we had a few stomach problems due to the cream content n the food.

Having spoken to the auto driver the next day, he also said the food at Lalitha Mahal isn't very good.

Externally it looks wonderful but the food and service were horrible. The property was not maintained well. I did not stay here.
