On a recent trip to Mashobra, I heard of this fabulous natural attraction from a local resident, when I asked him about good cycling tracks. The "reserve forest and water catchment area" as it is officially called, is a beautiful 10 sq kms of forest area, through which runs a well maintained dirt track, absolutely perfect for casual cycling. The track is about 6 to 7 kms depending on whether you choose to head to the rest house or the water catchment tank. The tank is a massive 120 metre long structure built in the british era and I'm sure it looks imposing when full. Picnic spots abound and the cycling through the trail is one of those simple pleasures life offers you, when you make the effort once in a while to get away from the city!
Do remember to carry your snacks, water etc with you, since there is nothing along the trail and even when you get to the water tank, there's nothing there. Which is what makes it a perfect place to visit, no crowds, just pure nature.
They will charge INR 50 per cycle (if you're carrying your own cycle) and INR 50 per person to enter. It's INR 100 per cycle if you rent one of their own cycles, which are very basic cycles.
What a discovery! I'd highly recommend for a cycling picnic or simply a long walk in the woods.
