There is a notice board as you start the walk just past the Christ Church which gives the prospective walker the target times to reach the Temple on foot. Take no notice, I am 65 years of age and got there in 28 minutes (and I live at sea level). The Hanuman figure is huge and worth the effort to see it close to. There are monkeys everywhere and they will steal from you so make sure any possessions are secured, particualrly spectacles.

The University grounds and building are just beautiful and so full of Indian history...right from the British Raj era to famous treaties signed there to post independence events...a must visit for all going to Shimla.

A stay in Shimla should include a visit to the Vice Regal Lodge. On a sunny day the views are stunning and the garden is simple, pretty and well maintained -I love going in march when the enormous banksia rose is flowering.
Inside you may only visit the entrance hall and a museum room with lots of interesting photos. The guides are very knowledgable, especially Raj.
