The temple is an attraction too good to miss. More so because from your walks on the mall Road, you can gauge at the Towering Hanuman statue and feel great that you could go up there.

I attempted the drive up on my car with family through the narrowest hill roads ever I have crossed and it was one scary experience. I almost lost complete control on negotiating the turns. If you are an absolute pro in driving with a fab car, you can try it out, but with a lot of caution. Get your hotel to arrange for a Cab rather.

I loved that the challenge in a Hanuman temple was the monkeys. I hated the danger it presented in height especially since it was snowing.

Jakhu temple situated on top of a steep hill road about 5 kms from Shimla has a 108 ft high gigantic Hanuman statue. There is a small temple of Hanuman. There is also a mark of a foot on a rock, which devotees claim as the foot imprint of Lord Hanuman on his way to South while carrying the Sanjeevani hill

You can ride a car halfway up to this place, and there will be some limited parking. From that spot only very small cars can proceede - the roads are just to narrow for larger cars. But again, the climb from the parking is 7-800 meters (very steep), or you can pay 100 ruppes to have some guy drive you up, takes 5 minutes. You will be dropped of at the stairs leading to the temple, and there is a short walk in stairs to the main tempel area.

Of course there is the hughe mokey god statue, surronded by lots and lots of monkeys. They will grab phones, cameras and food - and you will not get it back. But mostly you will be left alone and out of danger :). Amazing views and fresh cool air, well worth the trip.
