Great view, amazing Hanuman statue and a small but cute temple. Just don't go if you're too scared of animals and monkeys

One of the evidences that Ramayana is not mythological only, because lord Hanumana actually went to get the Sanjeevani Buti to cure the injured Lakshamana, Lord Rama's brother, in battle between Ravana and Rama to get Rama's wife,Sita back. Lord Hanumana after carrying the'Buti', they say rested at this place, The Jakhoo , before reaching his destination. The temple was thus constructed here to commemorate the incident. This is the nearest tourist spot for people visiting Shimla. One can trek the climb, there is a govt Taxi too which takes you right till the top at a nominal rate of Rs. 10/- per head. Though this taxi is basically run by the Govt. for senior citizens and children. But other private taxis too take you at the top, though the charges are much more. Since the Govt has taken over the charge of the temple, lots of improvements have been done.the surroundings are well maintained and there is one more temple near the Jakhoo temple, called Baba Balak Nath temple. it has been recently renovated. the place is worth visiting. The only minus point being the menace of monkeys. And of course if you are walking it, the climb too is tough. Trekkers may not find it bad though as the distance is not much.
Only recently, a huge sculpture of lord Hanumana has been made which is visible from almost anywhere around Shimla..A must visit place for all those who visit Shimla.

Yes it's a long steep climb [ although you can cheat and go by car], but there is a feeling of achievement when you arrive at the top. Sticks can be hired to ward off troublesome monkeys and we were advised that glasses too should be removed as they are liable to snatch those. My son had his backpack unzipped whilst he sat down, by a curious monkey. The monkey statue is bigger than you'd think but apart from that, the temple is not very special. Nice views from the top.
