“Hustlers ride”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

Feel was not the right time in May end hot summer. To reach the top HP guv promotes locals to provide horses the only mode of transport to top. The horse ride is quite exiting & tiring for first timers as after reaching the top could not find much of any interest as the area has been captured by fun & fare entertainment , foods shacks , filthy surroundings as no proper control of Eco-conservation. May be in winter this place would be enjoyable due to snow.
Tips : Choose the lowest offered price for the ride to the top & back as they try to exaggerate other areas to be covered and show different rates as the last point is one and can be covered by legs. Negotiate even if its govt approved price "as claimed" if ur in big group - reason each cab drivers have their own contacts and they get a share. This is common practice this side of tourism where u need to borrow / wear / hire special transport for a price. The pain here is that going up & coming down route by horse is same creating a "Hustlers criss cross race"

“Avoidable..Too crowded”

The pony ride up the hill is definitely not worth the view... Just a waste of time. The growing number of tourists is making life miserable for the poor ponies. I saw one pony collapse out of exhaustion, only to be beaten black and blue by it's owner.. Such practices must stop!!

“Choke your lungs with the dust and burn yourself in the summer inferno”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

The place is a sheer waste of money and time atleast in summers. After spending around Rs 800 on cab for 1 hour drive, one expects too see some extraordinary heavenly scenic beauty as often described by taxi drivers and resturant managers(in my case). What you find , on the contrary, is dust being kicked up by horses and pestering horse -men and blazing sun, the perfect recipe for a ruined excursion. The taxi does not go to the actuat point. so you have two choices..either to give in to the perstering horse- men or in fit of adventure decide to walk the 20 minute uphill, broken, dusty path.IF you you are with infants, aged, heart patiences, ashmatic(lung prob) then please avoid the place in the first place but if you have unfortunately travelled the 1 hour distance see it pointless to go back then I'd say take the horses because walking with or for infants, heart patients, aesthemtics is not recommeded at all.But if you are young and fit ,you can easily walk provided that you get the pestering horse men to stop tailing you despite your refusal.
Coming to the actual point, it has an amusement park with overpriced rides. a temple located on a small uphill ,if you have any legs left to to walk stairs, and another point which you can access only by paying Rs100 irrespective of whether you want to use their binoculars or not.
I strongly recommed going up to the temple because its free and it does make for a good backdrop for the shutterbugs. The view from the temple is beautiful enough to lift your spirits after a long and tiring day.
I wonder whether the place would be any better in winters.May be the snow can help to settle down the dust atleast.
But Its definitely a big No in summers.
