Just as you enter the property you look in awe at the big imposing palace and the big garden surrounding the hotel.
The place is a the Palace of Maharaja of Jubbal coverted into a Hotel. I booked the hotel on the recommendation of a friend and was really impressed with the same.
I would recommend the old block on the second floor as it has the same romance of the golden era. I had to insist on getting the same but the bathrooms are not upto the mark in this block.
The room had a fireplace with a tea/coffee maker and a Extra Large Double Bed.
The food and service was not that great as the service staff were busy attending to some functon in the banquet.
We took the long walk to the mall road as suggested by the staff but I would not recommend the same to aged persons as well as couples having small kids as it is strenous.
Overall a nice place for one off stay.

  • Liked — The Room are really big and spacious
  • Disliked — The staff was not great and the food was okay.

Great place.. nice and relaxing !!
We just stayed for a couple of days and nights there - 4 of us with a couple of kids... The staff was very friendly and helpful.. room service, baggage etc..
It's a great place - slightly outside of the hustle and bustle.. but if you just want to just relax, laze around and enjoy breakfast at 10 am and a late night drink at the bar with the feeling of living in the days of the Raj -- this is the place to be..
Dinner buffet was nice one of the evenings..
You need your own car to stay at this hotel since this is a little (5 km) away.

Our vacation to the Woodville Palace Hotel was very enjoyable. The location of the hotel is excellent in a wooded area with no noise and amazing views all around. The short walk of about 20 minutes to the mall in Shimla is through the roads housing the chief minister and hence very quiet and well maintained.

The hotel has good clean rooms with excellent service with regards to housekeeping. The staff was prompt and we were allowed to check in early and also check out late. Transportaion arrangements were made promptly by the staff. The only disappointment was the quality and the limited variety of food on offer at the restaurant and in room service. Room service was extremely slow.

We would recommend the hotel for its old charm and character, quiet surroundings and the views from the gardens.

Friendly staff, beautiful atmosphere, great food! (try the butter chicken) Buffet breakfast was included. They cleaned our room everyday. We stayed at Woodville Palace for 2 nights in Shimla. We went without booking and they had open rooms so they gave us a discount :) It was a very pleasant stay. Very relaxing and away from the noise. That being said..if you're looking for something in the middle of the mall or action..this won't do. You need a car to get anywhere around Shimla. *We had a downstairs room which was cold at night but they had a mini space heater and large thick blankets to keep us warm :)

This hotel is terrible. We normally never write reviews but now we want to warn everyone who is concidering to go to this hotel. The entire location is a construction site. You have to walk past barbwire to get to the entrance. The worst thing is the complete lack of hygiene: this is by far the dirtiest hotel we've ever had. We saw 4 rooms, all were a complete nightmare. The bathroom was full of fungus, every corner, teh shower, the walls, everything was covered with fungus. I cought a huge spider who had made a web underneath the bath (some tiles were missing leaving a nice cave-like home for insects etc). The floor was very dirty. The toilet had faeces on the outside, there were mousedroppings on the floor, we found hair in the bed, the blankets and sheets were stained. All the windows in hallways etc were kept open day and night (were being painted), but there were no flyscreens. Breakfast was poor and we were affraid to touch the chairs, the table etc, everything was sticky and dirty. Simply awfull, don't go there!

After the first night we cancelled the rest of our stay there and changed to another hotel (Willow Banks) which was better and cleaner. There are also 2 Oberoi-hotels. I think they will be the best in town. Good luck!

I recently visited Shimla on a 3 day break, in an attempt to escape the heat in Delhi. Must say it was quite a pleasant trip and a wise decision. The weather was perfect…pleasant during the day and a slight chill in the air due to brief drizzle in the evening. An evening walk around the gardens of Woodville Palace Hotel where I stayed was a much better way to enjoy the evening than walking on the Mall. Being a popular site, the Mall tends to get quite crowded in the morning and evening. On the other hand, Woodville is set away from the crowded areas and is spread across a sizeable area with walkways, winding paths and well maintained gardens. The Garden Restaurant was another delight. Food was tasty and service and setting added to the experience. All in all, it was a delightful 3 days that we spent at this colonial property.

The property is good if it had been upkept but unfortunately a hotel where the management is so incomponent u cant expect them to pay attention to finer things. They gave one room in the newly bulit wing( has no charm) and one in the old building (charms is there largely cause no upkeep has been done for many yrs). We ordered milk for my 18 month daugther after 30 mins called was told its on its way, which finally arrived after 1.30 hrs. thank god we had tetra pack milk. The food we ordered in the room never came, we would call and get the same reply that its on its. The hotel is loaded with untrained and even the management doesnt seem to understand clearly. I couldnt sleep all night cause of bed bugs, when we called in the morning they refused to accept that there were bed bugs, i had to argue for 2 hrs before they changed the matteress. After the GM was blasted they started caring what we wanted but by then it was too late. I always plan my trip with tripadvisor, this was the first time i didnt have time to have look and i paid the price, guys dont even consider this place

  • Liked — the house is old which has charm to it but painful to see how ill- mantained the whole place
  • Disliked — bed bugs and untrained staff
