The place is simply awesome...
The property is very well built and offers some amazing views.

Its a bit away from the Mall road, but that was OK for us.
Its very close to Jakhoo Temple and we even walked to it once and from there to the Mall road :)

Those who are fond of walking, it will not disappoint you.

The staff was very friendly. Special mention about Pratap, who made some great food. We did not even try to have dinner outside!

Great place guys. Keep up the good work.

We arrived at Hira after a very very long day - Kalka-Shimla train so we'd been up since 4.30am so 12 hours later and lots of walking round the town we were exhausted, cold and tired.

The building is down a very very steep flight of stairs which would be very difficult to manage if you had luggage. We were there for only 2 nights so were able to leave the main bags in the bus and just take what we needed.

Having just arrived from Rajasthan with 30C temps we were not prepared for the cold and the rooms seemed cold and the water was cold and we seem to hit a low point. However, we found the heater, we turned on the hot water and we found the cuddly duvet. Soon things began to look up and we realised what a beautiful building it was and what space there was to enjoy if we were there for a longer stay.

The caretakers were lovely, welcoming and hospitable. The only issue was that having communicated with the owner who said there was driver accommodation available at a cost we discovered that the caretakers knew nothing of this and there was no accommodation for our driver. They did however provide blankets and food and drink for them and did the best they could. Seems odd to offer this if none was even possible.

The accommodation was bed and breakfast. We were able to eat 100m up the road at Buddy's. This was good and we ate there both evenings that we were in Shimla.

Our group was 7 in number so we had both suites, one was huge bedroom, sitting room and massive bathroom and the other was a huge bedroom, smaller twin room and a smaller bathroom. Adjoining the two rooms was a closed in verandah style communal area, dining room and kitchen. I don't know how this would work if there were two unrelated parties but for us it was fine and imagine a summer stay of longer duration to have been great. Outside there is a terrace which has breathtaking views (complete with monkeys - so close that mesh door and leave nothing outside). This would have been a lovely retreat.

Those two nights that we spent at Hira were the quietest we experienced in the three weeks we had in India. The second night was even better as things had warmed up and we had copious amounts of hot water.

Stayed for 2 nights here in June 2013. The retreat is a comfortable distance away from the maddening crowds, the place is well connected by public transport, in case you do not have your own ride.
The Bunglow, converted into resort, is quite spacious and is very well maintained. The high ceilings and colonial furniture in the rooms gave a royal feel to our economic stay! A cute verandah/patio in front of the property is well suited for lazying around and has comfy chairs to use. Eating out is not advised due to the omnipresent monkey menace.
The staff is courteous and unobtrusive. The owners lend a personal touch by calling you up and ensuring your comfort and well being.
Home cooked meals need to be pre ordered and are delicious. Just next to the Hotel is a restaurant called "Buddy's" which delivers lip smacking delicacies throughout the day. So no worries there. The dining table overlooks the valley through the window and is a charm to dine on!
Highly recommend this place for any time of the year.:-)

Room Tip: If you are travelling in a group, upto 5-6 people, pick the 2 joined rooms. Else go for the more pri...

We stayed at Hira Mount just for a night on our way back to Delhi. Must say that the cottage is extremely classy, well maintained & clean. The different period pieces that adorn the property lend to its old world charm & the décor is very much in sync. However, what disappointed me was the service. The manager was out of town & I was told that the caretaker will look after us which is fine. Also that there was a menu card and we could order what we wanted. We reached at 4pm after a 6 hour journey, so naturally we wanted some tea & snacks but we were told that nothing would be possible without prior notice as they would have to go to the main market to get raw materials. The caretaker & his helper was only too happy to hand us the menu card of a local takeaway called Buddys. Thank God for Buddys & their efficient service that we could get some snacks with our tea within 20 minutes. Same with dinner - we were told that they don't have anything in stock so its best if we ordered from Buddys, which is what we did. We were 7 of us sharing the big family suite of 2 double beds & another room but they had only provided 2 towels in one room. After repeated requests we managed to get 3 more towels & were told there weren't any more available - really!!!! We had told them in the evening that we would like to leave on time & wanted breakfast at 7.30 the next morning, yet when we reached the table at 7.45 there was nothing ready. The caretaker was hardly around & too busy supervising some construction work going on in the property so there was only one guy in the kitchen to serve all of us breakfast. What happened in reality was that my mother & I had to stand in the kitchen and make toasts and serve all of us while the cook made us omelettes! A truly DIY B&B! We asked for butter & jam and were told there was no jam! At that point I just lost it and gave the cook a piece of my mind & whoa there was a bottle of jam on our table in less than 2 minutes which means, it was obviously there but it was just easy for him to say no! Anyway, I only have one thing to say to the owners if they are reading this. Its a beautiful property with an amazing location but someone needs to train the two guys at the property and ensure that instead of saying "no" to everything they should at least make an attempt to make their guests comfortable & happy. Last but not the least, there was a RAT in one of the rooms!!! We got up after hearing noises & called the caretaker who came & placed a trap & within minutes the rat was trapped. However the rodent kept jumping all night so we could hardly sleep! So quite a few things need urgent attention here!!!
