In the month of November 2012; I was on the official tour for 3 days to Shimla .while going through the reviews on The 'Tripadwisor' i found this hotel but it was very difficult to get a room reserved because there is no booking provision available on internet .You will have to book the room by making an advance payment through NEFT/RTGS and only after confirmation a room is booked. One may contact on the phone numbers:-01772811016,01772652375 or 01772650021 for any clarification/booking.This hotel is nearby christ church adjoining to Mall. All the Rooms are wooden and therefore cold resistant.Hot water is also supplied in the Bath rooms(Bath Rooms/Toilets are common ) For single occupancy they charge only Rs.500 and for double it is only Rs.600 including Breakfast ;Isn't it cheap and best? specially for a long stay and for the Government servants having the limitations of rent claims. While staying there be ware of monkeys and shut the Doors and Windows before leaving the Room.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 2nd floor gives you a better view of the surroundings.

We stayed for five days in Nov 2012 with two kids and three adults. The staff were fantastic, and the position of the hotel was handy for the mall and all the shopping in Shimla. Anil the travel guide was a great resource and he took us on a five day trip through Himichal Pradesh and upto Dharamasala. Highly recommend staying here if you are in Shimla.

Room Tip: All the rooms appeared to be good...pretty old school, and could do with alick of paint, but hey its...

We stayed at the Shimla YMCA for 2 nights and it was a very comfortable stay. Our room was beautifully decorated with antique furniture and we had a little private sitting area ( the bathroom was clean, although very basic .the food excellent and the staff friendly and helpful.

I stayed at the YMCA Shimla in October this year with a friend and both our husbands for 3 nights, 4 days. We were looking for a comfortable and an economic stay. Also we didnt want to spend too much on the hotel rent since we knew we would be in the room only in the nights. And we dont regret our choice one bit! This was the first experience of staying in a youth hostel and we were a little unsure of the idea of common wash rooms and toilets. But, to our surprise, the toilets and washrooms are very well maintained, absolutely clean and nicely done. There are about 6 rooms on each floor and 3 toilets per floor. The rooms are very basic but clean. The spread for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner is not lavish but wholesome. We need to inform in advance about our lunch/ dinner whereas breakfast is complementory. Mr.George at the restaurant was extremely warm and welcoming. The YMCA also has an indoor game room for table tennis/ carrom, a music room and a beautiful view of the famous Jakhu. It is a few steps away from the Ridge, which itself is a great place to got to and well placed from the mall road and market.
It definitely is a recommended option for young enthusiasts who wish to spend wisely on their stay and are ready to give a miss to the fancy, exotic hotels.. for the beauty of Shimla is on the streets and not in the rooms.

Room Tip: The rooms and wash rooms/ toilets on the second floor are recently renovated. The toilets on the fir...

We usually stay here when we visit Shimla. Several years ago they improved their facility.
It was painted, new mattresses in the rooms, the bathrooms were redone. Had a very good hot shower there and a good sleep.

Location: At the ridge, a number of steep steps from the Ritz movie theater – plus: nice views and close to the main square and the mall, minus: at quite a distance from train station and bus station (like most nice hotels in Shimla), with lots of luggage the steep climb can be very exhausting as Shimla center is strictly pedestrian zone.

Room: Fairly big, very clean room with nice views. Bathrooms are shared but are probably the cleanest bathrooms in all of India, “Western” toilet (toilet paper for sale at reception), AC not necessary (mountain climate), no WIFI.

Service: Reception staff very friendly and helpful, good but early breakfast included, curfew between 10.00 and 10.30 p.m – be careful gate gets closed. Wake-up service, laundry, Internet, luggage storage, etc. for a small fee upon request at reception.Trekking and jeep safaris can also be booked through the in-house agent. Cash only.

Value for money: Pretty good – rather low rates but excellent value.

I stayed there for one night...The price is slightly expensive but given that it is peak season...it should be slightly inflated.

The bed is pretty good with the thick blankets if you are too cold.
Common Bathroom are well maintained...in fact the best I have seen in a few hostels...
Quite a few hidden cost like the wifi, heater...but it not of a problem...

Overall, I find it to be above average.
