This is not just a guest house. It is an experience with a loving family who looks after your interests no matter what the purpose of your stay.
For example, our driver who had been accustomed to staying in terrible rooms in first class hotels, was given a clean private room with good food at no extra cost. His physical comfort is important as our safety on the roads depends on him. The little pagoda which you see on top of the house is actually a meditation room if you are so inclined. The family meals were a joy to the pallet, and with conversation of intellectual and spiritual depth. And everything was spotlessly clean. 10 out of 10

The place is ideal for having a peaceful weekend away from the crowds of the Mall road, Shimla. The rooms offer panoramic views of the valley and are a delightful sight.
About the rooms, each set has one bed room, one Study/TV room, one kitchen and a very spacious balcony. The place is spacious enough and our pet dog had a great time. The bathrooms are big and neat and clean.
Special thanks to the Kanwar family for being wonderful hosts!! The home made breakfasts and dinners were delicious and a real treat for the palate!! The atmosphere, the conversations and the home made delicacies of the dining area will be truly missed!!

Even though I was informed before my trip to the North about the great hospitality of North Indians, I was still amazed by the unbelievable warmth, kindness and sincerity shown by Shivi and his family at Aapo Aap home Stay. To begin with, the first glimpse of the home stay is incredible (online pictures do not do it justice), then to be greeted by the family personally at the entrance, accompanied with friendly conversations over a cup of hot tea and biscuits is something you will rarely experience even in a seven star hotel.
In addition, the home stay is brilliant; beautiful, spacious, quiet, clean and homey. When you add the food, company, and breathtaking views from the house, you are presented with a positively rare and memorable experience. I am extremely humbled and grateful to Shivi and his family for making my stay in Shimla, one of such comfort and bliss, and would undoubtedly recommend staying here even if it is for just a day.

We stayed at Aapo Aap for a week during a recent visit to Himchal Pradesh. Our booking had been for 4 nights but due to the beauty of the scenery and the hospitality of our host Shivi and his father Shamshar we extended for 3 further nights.

Being out of Shimla was an advantage not a hinderance. We could enjoy the walks and the bustling life of this most fascinating city then return each evening to our home for dinner with our hosts and animated discussions on all manner of subjects.

A taxi would pick us up and with a free mobile phone provided by Shivi we could call the same driver to pick us up and take us back when we were ready - for a modest price.

Our accommodation consisted of a sitting room with breathtaking views across the mountains and a separate bedroom with en suite. We also had access to a kitchen if we wanted to prepare meals - not necessary with a wholesome breakfast provided free and low cost interesting vegetarian dinners. There was also a large communal room we share with one other apartment that contained books and games to keep us occupied in our quiet moments.

A thoroughly professionally run but family friendly environment that I would most heartedly recommend.

You couldn't ask for more. The house is beautiful - you can expect a spacious two room suite (not counting the common room) set in beautiful surroundings and perched on a hillside. Look out over the Himalayan foothills from the veranda outside your door.
Then there's Shivi - with the support of his family, no less. They're all attentive to their guests' needs, and they happily share their wealth of knowledge of Shimla, Himmachal, and beyond. Look for their sister (literally - it's Shivi's sister) homestay opening imminently in Chandigarh. (Lest I forget, the food is also excellent - Raju the cook is a star, and the price can't be beat (we pait Rs 2500/night for a family of four including dinner.)) We can't wait to return.

Aapo Aap Home Stay was the highlight of my trip through northern India. Shivi and his family were wonderful hosts and really made my experience in Shimla a memorable one. Their home is spacious and beautiful and my room had its own private balcony which looked out onto the hills. Though many tourists want to stay on the Mall road I would recommend against it. Though the Mall is a great place to visit it is too chaotic and a noisy area to stay in. It was wonderful staying in a place a little away from the center (about 20-30 mins drive) so I could get a break from the hustle and bustle and to truly have a "hill station" experience. Shivi was a great and reliable host from picking me up from Shimla station, to arranging for a taxi whenever I needed it, to recommending walks around Shimla, and even helping me with my travel arrangements for my next destination. The home cooking was delicious with Shivi and his family arranging for different kinds of food for dinner so I could try as much as possible. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get a bit more out of their experience in Shimla.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Shamsher and family in this large homestay. We had the top apartment which had more than enough space for our two kids and us - three bathrooms, kitchen, two bedrooms, a play room, a lounge dining room and further living room! We wanted somewhere with the flexibility for us to either cook or have our meals provided and this ticked all our boxes.
Aapo Aap is in a peaceful location about 25 mins from Shimla with stunning views over the valleys. We had a huge terrace which our kids enjoyed playing on. Shamsher is a welcoming host and, if you choose to take breakfast and dinner with the family, he makes sure that everything is just right. The food was always very good. His son, Shivi, takes care of the day to day running of the place, and does so excellently - nothing was too much trouble. We were impressed with the level of service and if we needed anything it was quickly provided - for instance we needed some extra utensils in the kitchen and got them the same day.
We're so glad we picked here for our summer break and liked it so much we stayed 15 days! We'd unreservedly recommend staying here.
