The Building itself is regal and Majestic. The gardens around it are well maintained and are great for walking around. Be sure to take the short, but informative guided tour inside the building. You will be surprized by the amount of history tucked away in this Castle cum lodge cum research centre! Try not to get pissed off by the insensitive and uncultured Indian tourists who despite being told not to, will sit on every piece of collectible furniture and touch every artifact put on display and marked 'do not touch'. The locally manufactured and bottled plum juice is a must have at the stall near the exit.

This is as good a way to spend a leisurely afternoon as any while in shimla. Its a stiff walk up the hill to where the lodge is. but the trip is worth it. The lodge is awesome, a good taste of colonial extravagance, and you can't but wonder at the effort of hauling the building material up there on mules and the like. Refresh yourselves at the old fire-station cafe where you also gets tickets for the guided tour. its about half an hour tour and the guide is a really nice chap. Lots of interesting facts, including those about the famous "partition" table, and the wax sealed sprinklers which would release water in case of fire as the wax melts.

This place is truly a royal place, where you feel like walking in heaven with your loved ones. Make sure you enjoy the sunset there. Choose the end point of the garden , relax and you will be living in those moments for about weeks.
