As we were traveling from Delhi to Shimla by road and our start from Delhi got delayed so were scheduled to reach Shimla around 11:00pm so i informed the reception. They were in touch with us till we reached the hotel. we reached around 10:45 they staff was helpfull through out the stay. we dint had any complains. the rooms were upto mark as per a Heritage Budgeted Hotel. Very Large room and heater was supplied to us at a very nominal charges. Hot water facility. Only think the hotel lacks in food they dont have a restaurant. if i was to visit shimla i will make sure i will stay at Dalziel. They is not much to do in shimla rather than just having a walk in the market and scandal point and visit some heritage structure. i would suggest dont get into any kind of seight seeing. if you are not travelling to manali then you should go to kufri for snow. for food better stick to dominos or a south indian restaurant baljee.

Room Tip: Take 4 bedded Family suit they are interconnected and can accomodated 6 people in a room with extra...

As I wanted to see the snow, I entered Shimla in the off-season. And I was blessed. My watch stopped the moment the toy train crossed the station into Shimla and by afternoon 230 it started snowing. The bell boy told me how in 1991 when they had snow like this, the tourists sold their cars and left in a huff and the cottage I was renting was inaccessible under 6ft of snow. I was thrilled to get this big fireplace, mantle and old world charm for the bargain price of Rs.500 a night. But nothing in the planet could warm up the room.
Had it not be for a friend (MD) who said blood circulation keeps humans warm no matter what, I would have frozen in fright at night in the hotel.
All the four days I lived there, I had a decent breakfast of tea and eggs. After the first day when I asked for hot drinking water, every morning without ringing the bell (they don't have EPABX facility) there will be someone to collect the flask and ask if I wanted anything else.
The bell boy even lugged my bags to the waiting taxi for a nominal tip (my own discretion) of Rs.50. Although the rules said that I may not eat or drink food from outside the hotel, the weather made all shops shut by 7 PM and I had to bring my dinner back with a drink (scotch, vodka & fruit juice, rum). They have a cable TV Connection and rent you a heater (no use if it is snowing) for Rs.100 a night.
The hotel has a tie-up with Chhaya Tours and Travels. As they are tied in, you can ask them to escort you from stn to hotel and sight seeing all in a stretch. of course, it is best that you negotiate these rates before landing there. For Kufri & Fagu (on horseback) you must not pay more than Rs.800. For Advanced Studies, I suggest you take a cab from BSNL up the Mall Rd and a bus to Summer Hill, unless you enjoy the toy train ride upto Solan too.
If you are on the Mall, don't bring your woollens. Most brands like Puma, Reebok, BodyCare, Adidas are situated on the road to dazzle you with the variety of warm fashionable clothing. Plus, the local tibetan market and shops like SnowWhite can provide you with a bargain, if you are looking for one.
If you are the gregarious sort, make friends with the hotel manager (an oldie goldie) so he will gladly guide you to where you can find what easiest.
One more thing about ancient buildings is that they actually have bathrooms as large as bedrooms. Only reason I wouldn't spend my time in one is that they only netted window in the entire premise is in that bathroom. Leave the geyser on for the entire length of the stay. The geyser is so old that if you switch it off, it takes half a day to warm up the same quantity of water.

Room Tip: If you are a single female traveller, inform in advance. Not only do they allot you a secluded area...

Probably we were in Shimla in June 2009 on family tour. We booked the hotel on spot, but the man on reception was very irrogent. We booked two rooms, rooms were average without any window in the room. Bed sheets were dirty and damp. Water availabily only in morning. Food we can say was good. Only excellent thing with the hotel is its location, it is near the mall road, railway station and bus stand. It was very burst expereince in Indian Cofee House, never go there.

we would recommend this hotel. That said, it's not exactly clean or well-kept. The sheets were always damp and the duvets were impossible to use because they smelled strongly of mildew. We were there in August and Shimla was still quite cold and damp in the evenings. The hotel is not exactly beautiful, but it does have a raj feel and it is nice to note that you are sleeping under a roof that was there when Shimla was the British summer capital of India and thus controlled the day to day of one fifth of the world. Everything has been painted over a hundred times in oil paint and the room was musty, so it felt like you were at someone's vacation home that hadn't been aired out. We had the large room that is actually downstairs from the lobby without a view. The other rooms upstairs were much smaller. We choose to get dinner and breakfast with our room and this was the best part. Dinner was probably the best meals we had on our trip, honestly. It was much more than we could eat and the staff was wonderful. They gave us a menu in the mornings to choose our dinner and there are six sets, two vegetarian. Each person can choose a set and each set is really enough for three! They made as much fresh roti as we wanted and the curries were amazing (mutton was awesome!) We ordered one veg set and one meat and it was a huge feast. Really, dinner was worth the price of the room. Breakfast was omelet, toast, porridge, fruit, coffee. We ate well in Shimla. The location is a short walk from the main mall, very convenient . We thought the character of the hotel, the friendly service, location, and the food made this a very nice place to stay, despite the less than comfortable sheets and duvet (truly, all of Shimla was damp and cold, don't think it would have been much better anywhere else).

I had booked this hotel through their website, and got a double room for Rs 725 per day. The room is neat and clean with very clean bathroom, hot water, TV, room service. They have very cozy restaurant and a lobby which serves good food. Aloo paranthas were too good. To serve food in room they charge 20 percent more.

I walked from train station to this hotel in 15 minutes with one stop for rest for 5 minutes. As the road is good you can pull your luggage trolly easily instead of carrying it. While going to ISBT to catch evening bus to Manali, which is the main outstation bus stand, I climbed down the small road opposite this hotel and reached the bus stand in 15 minutes, with a stop for rest for 5 minutes at Gulmarg hotel bench.

Kali Bari, Mall road, ridge road, HP tours office and shopping areas are at walkable distance from this hotel. You can reach these places in 15 minutes with small rest stops in between. Benches are provided all over shimla for resting.
Kali bari is just 5 minutes climb in neighbourhood.

I did not have any problems staying in this hotel. But I do realise that the old man at the reception is arrogant, while the suport staff is too good.
I will strongly recommend this hotel for families and others who are looking for neat and clean budget accommodation in close proximity to train station and bus stand.

HP tours buses start from Rivoli bus stand, and you can reach there within 15 minutes. But those tours costing Rs 250 are useless as there is nothing worthwhile to see. Except Mall road there is nothing good in Shimla. Avoid Indian Coffee House....it serves the worst possible food. Good vegetarioan restaurant is Gupta Bhojanalaya at the mall road.

Self with wife Visited this hotel in the last week on Feb-11, before arriving we had already requested owner of Hotel to keep a deluxe room available, which was honored. We stayed for 1N.
Arrived at 1:30 PM, Room was found neat with good view from window. 24x7 hot water supply, courteous service men (except an old man sitting at the reception... a rude person), But very BAKWAS TEA after that we had never couraged to order again any food or beverages. We definitely enjoyed a good time over there.
Simply i would say in budget hotel category .... this is a good Hotel.

Feedback:- Should require professional staff and at least provision for good drinking water & Tea.

We emailed Hotel Dalziel and asked for a room, and replied with almost the exact time we would arrive. When we did arrive, at 11pm at night and after about 24 hours travel on buses, the room had been given to someone else. The person at the door was rude and turned us away without any further help. If you respect good customer service, don't stay here.
