During the last leg of our trip, my wife and I stayed at Eleven, New Delhi, a wonderful place in a quiet section of town (yes, there is such a thing!) run by a most amicable innkeeper named Ajay Anandd. Upon our arrival, we found the inn to be spacious, well-manicured, and – most importantly – clean! After traveling through the Indian areas of Delhi and in the southern Tamil Nadu, we were relieved to be provided with some of the Western comforts to which we were accustomed.
Immediately upon arrival, we were met with Ajay who showed us around the house and gave us a selection of two of the available rooms. He personally walked us through the entire room, explaining each amenity as we went. Before leaving us to it, he provided us with a cell phone by which we could reach him at any time if we needed assistance around the city. Upon our request, he provided the location of a nearby (walking distance) café where we had a lovely dinner.
While out, we decided to check out the mall and inquired if Ajay could assist. He did so and arranged a cab to pick us up. He gave us instructions regarding the best cab companies and where to find their stalls. However, when we were unable to locate the cabs, we used the cell phone to contact him again. He immediately arranged to have a cab to get us. As we entered the cab, Ajay actually contacted the cab company, had his call forwarded to the cab driver, and then insisted to use the cab driver’s phone to speak directly to us to ensure that we had entered the proper car!
The sounds of the traffic outside were minimal as the traffic of this part of town is lighter and the walled gating surrounding the property blocks much of the noise. The bed was most comfortable and the bathroom was large and pristine.
The following morning, the breakfast served to us was enormous and very tasty! We were given the option of Indian or Western styles, along with fruit of various types. We checked out at noon, but since our plane was not leaving until later in the evening, we planned to site-see during the day. Ajay allowed us to leave our packs at the inn until we returned. When we were ready to depart (hours after we checked out), Ajay arranged another cab for us to take us to the airport.
We decided that if we ever found our way back to Delhi, we would most definitely stay at Eleven again. It is more expensive than the cheap dives in town, but the value provided is far greater than the price of the room. We recommend this place to anyone who visits New Delhi.
