“Fulfils a need”

I wasn't looking forward to this as I am a bit long in the tooth and like my creature comforts but there seemed nowhere else available at the time of booking at a reasonable price.
The room was large but paint peeling in one area. Bed linen clean. Air conditionining unit directly above bed meant it had to be turned off during the night. Fridge in room. In the morning I found two lizards in the room, I would never have slept if I had seen them the night before!
Breakfast ok, but reminded me of a school canteen.

This is a great place to stay at a reasonble price. My single air conditioned room was quite large with a nice bathroom and shower. $25.00 approx per night. The place is a little shabby but do not be put off by the institutional appearance. A basic breakfast is included in the cost -- toast, omelets, coffee and the best bananas I have ever tasted. The attached travel agency has e-mail access and phone lines all at reasonable prices. The place is a short walk from Connaught place and next door to Gunwara Sahib Sikh Temple. Chanting goes on all night but I found it rather soothing and sleep inducing.

  • Liked — The ease in finding it and the location
  • Disliked — Instituional and smells of insecticide

After trying a few other hotels for way too much money and extremely unclean. This YWCA was clean & friendly, with great rates and food. It was a big relief to find a safe place where I could relax. There are guards to enter the complex, breakfast and a newspaper are included. Lunch and dinner is very reasonable. Internet access is almost always available at I believe 30 rupees per hour. Maid and laundry service. Laundry cost next to nothing and is back in 24 hours provided they get your laundry before noon. There are taxis and Tuk Tuks for hire at the front gate. I found everything very pleasant and convenient. I stayed for 3 or 4 days at the beginning of the month and then again later in the month on my way to another location. It's not perfect but I think it was a good value. Be sure to visit the Temple next door open 24/7. Happy traveling.

I stayed at the Delhi YWCA for a couple of nights in March 2007. Rates were very reasonable. The YWCA is located in central Delhi, walking distance to Connaught Place. The building itself doesn't look great but don't let it put you off. Downstairs there is a nice breakfast area/restaurant, which is up to Western standards and has a bit of green space to sit outside.

The rooms are basic but clean, bathroom is Indian style but clean and well kept. The rooms are a little dark because of the way the building is built with the balconies, but otherwise I had no complaints. I would suggest getting a superior room if possible as it is less gloomy. It still looks standard but compared to a regular room it is still better.

  • Liked — Location, cleanliness, breakfast facilities
  • Disliked — Rooms a little dark esp. standard rooms

I stayed here for a few nights with some friends in April 2006. The place is very basic, but extremely clean, which is the main critieria for most budget travellers in India. Fairly comfortable beds with clean linen, and the bathrooms were good too. The staff is courteous if not overly friendly, and the place has an institutional feel to it. Fantastic location, and they can arrange a vehicle for sightseeing. Recommended in Lonely Planet.
