I just returned from a fantastic trip to India which I began and ended with a stay at Shanti Home. India is pure magic but in the first days after arrival it can be a pretty intense experience for travellers, especially for those visiting for the first time. I highly recommend Shanti Home as the place to ease your way in. The staff couldn't be more kind and helpful, the rooms are gorgeous and the food is delicious. And Pooja, the manager, is super sweet and great at arranging and advising you on whatever you want in terms of your time in Delhi and beyond. They really take care of you. I read the review above about the location not being great. Yes, there's a lot going on in the area--a market and major bus stop--but that's India, so jump on in. The metro is really close and it's a great transportation system with the first car of every train reserved for women only and if you aren't interested in experiencing a little of the crazy Delhi street life, then Shanti Home will arrange a car to take you wherever you want to go and it's very reasonable. In my opinion, Shanti Home is an excellent choice and I'll stay there again and again.

This was our first trip to India, a long-awaited dream. Being in Delhi proved to be hectic, noisy, wonderful, challenging and exhausting so that coming back to Shanti Home at the end of the day was a treat. The hotel is quirky and charming with a great rooftop restaurant serving good food. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly and when we returned at the end of our two week holiday it was like coming home! Twice we had to get up at 3 in the morning - once to catch a train and then to catch our flight home - and the staff were so accomodating with early morning cups of tea and snacks. it is some distance from the centre of Delhi but you get an insight into important aspects of life in Delhi you would otherwise miss so I'd definitely recommend it.

We spent our first two nights here on our first trip to India and it was a great place. It was a bit of a splurge for us but it was worth it. The hotel itself is charming. The service was top-notch - manager Pooja was very helpful with booking our train tickets. The food on the rooftop patio was some of the best we had on our trip. The included breakfast was superb.
We also appreciated the use of tip-jars, which avoids the potential awkwardness of having tipping staff individually.
The only down-side is the distance from the center of the city, though we used the metro as our primary means of getting around, so it wasn't much of a problem. A staff member took us to the station the first time - not what I'd call a relaxing stroll, but hey, this is India.

.. this hotel is in an awful location. Although it's in a gated residential street, the area around is a typical poor Delhi suburb. It's a ten-minute walk to the nearest metro - through the local market, along a v. busy main road construction site (no pavement). Then it's 40 to 50 minutes to the centre of Delhi. We could not find anything to do locally - nothing to see, and nowhere to walk, eat, etc.

The hotel service is bizarre and the staff obsessive. They chased after us along the road, when we had not handed in our room key - apparently this is forbidden - and demanded to know where we were going and when we'd be back - and not just on this occasion. Given the area, perhaps they're worried about the safety of their residents! When I asked about finding a chemist, I was told to drink jasmine tea for my flu..

The room itself was small and dark - we couldn't read or use a laptop keyboard at night,- without any tea/coffee-making (or TV). They seemed inordinately proud of their equally dark and dingy public rooms on each floor (they insisted on giving us a conducted tour of the place while all we wanted was to go to our room after an overnight flight from London), which we never saw anyone use. The rooftop restaurant was ok - when they raised the claustrophobic tarpaulins surrounding it.

If you don't mind being stuck in some remote part of Delhi, having to be taken everywhere in hired cars and fussed over by ingratiating staff, then this is certainly the place for you. However, we are independent travellers who like to use public transport, and walk around finding our own things to do, places to eat, etc. - and this was a truly dreadful start to what was otherwise a wonderful holiday. in India.

Hotel was in a residential area in Dehli. Rooms are beautiful and so comfortable. The rooftop cafe has some really great food and wine. But, the staff is what makes this hotel so great. They totally went out of their way for me. Great place to stay for single women travelers who need a break and time to relax. Thank you for everything!

This is a great little hotel which I love. Everything is just right for me, at least. I have travelled in India very extensively over many years. I am not a huge fan of Delhi. But I am a huge fan of this hotel. The owner is very helpful. The manager is excellent. The staff are attentive, efficient and never intrusive. The hotel is clean, has great atmosphere and the food in the rooftop restaurant is always good. Plumbing in New Delhi is often poor, with manky bathrooms. Not here. Shanti home is a great place to begin or end a trip through India. My only criticism is that I'd like to see some specials to add more variety in the restaurant menu.

The night before we were to leave New Dehli after almost 6 weeks, we were booked into Shanti Home and all we could think of was that we wished we had more time to spend there. It was such a wonderful place with such great peaceful ambiance. The room was very just right, the beds very comfortable and a wonderful shower. The service was impeccable and our meal was absolutely delicious. The restaurant was on the rooftop which just added to the allure. To top it off, we had to leave at 4:30 a.m., but the hotel brought us a huge, incredible breakfast at 4:00 a.m. to prepare us for our long day of flying. There are very few places that I give a 5 star rating to, but this place is certainly one of them. With that being said, the spa experience was okay, but needs a little more sensitivity to those who are more modest.
