“An Oasis in Delhi”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

My friend and I arrived at Cottage Yes Please late at night after 'escaping' from the extremely dirty and un-friendly hotel we had initially checked into. We immediately felt safe and relieved on walking into the reception area and being greeted by the hotel's polite and friendly staff. Our room was a little piece of heaven after a stressful day - very clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated with a tv, air-conditioning, good wifi and even a small fridge. Would definitely stay there again on my next visit to Delhi!

It's difficult to review a hotel in a town you pass through. Especially when the town involves everyone trying to rip you off. If like us you want to get train tickets. Go to hotel. Pick up map and get directions to New Delhi station. Walk there (10 mins). When there ignore all people at all costs. Find tourist ticket office. First floor of middle part of building. The great thing with hotel is the fact you can walk to station and avoid the touts. The hotel is fine. Clean room, with tv. The communal area was grim and not so clean. But fine for a pass through

A nice and warm welcome at cottage yes please. The room was nice and clean. We stayed for four nights, good rates and nice people. The bed and bathroom were in good condition. A very good place to stay for a very good price.

Stayed in a different hotel further down the street, which was much worse. Ended up moving up here, costs less and much better. Doesn't include breakfast as most places do, but they can tend to be pretty average, better to source your own anyway, street food eggs in bread is cheap and much yummier! Haven't been getting hot water, and tv is of much lower standard and crackles really loudly so you can't watch anything. Both problems that could probably be fixed, but we haven't bothered. Very helpful staff and the travel bookings people were upfront about the amount of commission they make and were even very happy to give us exact details of how to book rail tickets ourselves without extra fee. Very vey decent for the area, would come here again.

I was a regular customer of Cottage Yes Please for 10 years. It once was a real value for money. My last stay there last week however was by far the worst experience I ever had. The management invested in another new hotel nearby and that might be the reason that they don't care much about maintenance and repairs anymore in this hotel. Bathrooms are outdated, no overhead showerhead, leakages everwhere. Rooms are not cleaned properly, refrigerators are dirty and AC was not working in my first room. So they shifted me to another room, where the wooden bathroom window frame was totally undermined by termites. If I would have touched it, certainly it would have fallen apart. The duvet covers and towels are all heavy worn and some have holes.
What also annoys me are their service staff expecting tips for every single service of their duty, such as providing towel, soap, showing how everything works, etc. They seem not being able to wait time to get tip. - What disturbs me most is that you have to ask them to change the bed sheets because of stains or dirt of the previous guests.
But there are also some positive issues, which make the stay kind of comfortable. The TV sets are outdated for the high fixed room rates they are asking, but they offer satellite TV and free WiFi.
Next time I will shift to their new hotel in the same road and check their standards.

Room Tip: Take a room with window as there are many rooms without.

I traveled in India for 3 weeks in December 2012 through January 2013. Since it was winter, it was pretty cold in the North. Hotels aren't know for heat or good insulation but Cottage Yes Please was good on the insulation. It was in a good location at a good rate, too.

NEw Delhi is not the best city in India. It's a stopover place for tourists. But Cottage Yes Please located very close to the train station in the Paharganj area is great. Its well priced for budget travellers. The rooms are clean and with tv. It seems to lack windows but I doubt there would be much to see anyway. Our driver didn't pick us up from the airport which left us in a bit of a pickle trying to find it at 1am in the morning - please don't try it. But a great landmark to find this guesthouse is the Imperial Cinema (not really in use, but rickshaw drivers know it!) They offer a very cheap car to take you to the airport. This is not luxury accommodation, its basic but decent and a safe haven in what can be called a rough area. Full of backpackers and westerners too.
This place is also right by a Metro Stop. If you go to Delhi - use the Metro! You can buy a day travelcard and you can see many of Delhi sites in one day and never really have to walk the streets. It makes Delhi ALOT more bearable especially to new travellers!
