“Very Enjoyable but Not for the Expected Reasons”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We are not railway buffs but enjoy train travel and it was the promise of a view of the Maharaja carriages in a guide book that drew us to this Museum. Also, we had in mind preserved railways in the UK with locomotives restored by enthusiasts. Well, it was nothing like that with the engines simply in rows. Some huge locomotives bearing plates from workshops in Northern British cities, other, particularly the narrow gauge trains, much smaller and quirky. The Maharaja carriages and the Prince of Wales carriage are all there but only a limited impression can be gained by looking through the windows. However, the inside Museum exhibits and working models are fascinating and include some of the china and cutlery from the early periods plus many strange items like the skull of an elephant that once charged a train. Best of all for us was the Narrow Gauge train that transports a never ending queue of passengers around the site. The sheer joy and excitement created by this train was entertainment in itself and made our trip more than worthwhile.

“Good place to go with Kids”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

National Rail museum is located at Chanakyapuri, in the heart of New Delhi and is a place where one can spend some quality time with kids. It has a lot of information, interesting rail engine models and live engine and locomotive models as well. There is also a toy train which moves around the park, and stops at the railway station where one can buy tickets & enjoy the train ride. There are quite a few spots where you can rest, enjoy snacks that U might have packed along or generally take rest while your kids enjoy the rides ... It is one of the good places in Delhi & maintained pretty well, nominally priced entry ticket ...
