“A great hotel to stay at in Delhi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

My husband, myself and our toddler stayed here for a total of three nights in Feb 2013. We were on a Golden Triangle tour in India for only a week. We checked into Shangrila on a Sunday night as our direct flight came in very late. Check in was smooth and we upgraded to an Horizon Club room which met our requirements. The breakfast lounge was conveniently located next to our room.
Service here was very good. The only complaint we have was that the upgrade fee wasn't billed to our room when it should have been. We were told of this error by the hotel when we returned to Delhi after a very long drive from Jaipur.
Needless to say I was very upset. We were going to upgrade again but chose not to due to this careless error on the part of the hotel.
Apart from this, the hotel is a good choice for Delhi. Just make sure you check your bill when checking out.

What a disappointing experience! Has put me off from staying in any other Shangri-La hotel in the future. The staff are so completely uninterested in making you feel comfortable, the rooms are ok-ish (although we asked to change the rooms after the first night, when - due to constant noise - we had to sleep with the earplugs, not an acceptable detail when paying over 250 EUR per night) but really, nothing special. The bathrooms feel old and could well use a renovation. The breakfast buffet is ok, but the staff in the restaurant are not really 5* trained. In general, the hotel is well overpriced for what it offers, not worth it.

I have stayed in Sharngril-la hotels all around Asia Pacific and one Traders Hotel in HK.

The New Delhi Shangri-la was disappointing. The rooms were small, dark and dated and the restaurant laid on a meagre spread. Even the hotel staff seemed irritated at check-in, at breakfast and check-out (they didn't manage a single smile between them).

I can only conclude that the New Delhi Shangri-la isn't really a Shanrgi-la!

I looked carefully to see if it was a re-branded Traders Hotel but concluded that it was possibly a form of franchise over which the SGP/HK based group has no management control.

I wouldn't stay there again, it wasn't really bad but it was only mediocre.

Having stayed at the Leela earlier in our trip, we decided to end up at the Shangri-La, as we are rather fans of that chain. We were not disappointed.

We chose to stay in a Horizon Club room, as doing so offers a higher level of personalised service and makes the stay just that bit more enjoyable. At the Eros the Horizon Club offers a view out over Delhi Gate and onto Humayun’s Tomb in the distance. The staff in the Horizon Club are excellent. Whilst only there for two nights, we were made to feel most welcome and sort of “part of the family”, in that upon our return on day 2 we were recognised and

Our flights back to Australia were such that on our final day we would normally have had a 7/8 hour gap between checking out and departing for the airport. Somehow we mentioned this as check-in. The reception clerk’s immediate response was to offer to upgrade us to a suite, for a modest additional fee, which allowed us to check out at 6pm – in effect allowing us the room for the whole day. This made the process of packing (and all that extra shopping!!) so much easier. Sure, the hotel got an extra tariff, but it was relatively modest in the overall scheme of things, we ended up with a nice two-room suite, and the additional time.

The Eros is hard to fault. The rooms are lovely – tastefully decorated and comfortable. The staff/service is first class. The location is good. The restaurant is excellent.

As an example of service. My wife had a problem with her electronic door key – I was not in the room at the time. She got stuck unable to go up the life, obviously unable to get in the door, and unable to contact me. It was all fixed in almost an instant, and somehow in the process they located me in the business centre (that may have been a coincidence, but whatever it was it seemed like they knew exactly what was going on, and how to fix it). Very good.

As I said before, we like the Shangri-La chain. When next in Delhi I’ll return here, and am very happy to recommend the Eros.

We started out here for two nights during a two week tour of India and what a blessing! After a 14.5 plane ride from JFK to Delhi, it was quite a pleasure to be welcomed into this luxurious hotel. The tastefully decorated room contained more amenities than I have ever encountered. Besides shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, soap and lotion, there was a toothbrush with toothpaste, comb, emery board, q-tips, shower cap, sewing kit, sanitary bag, hairband, shaving mirror, hair dryer, hot water pot, scale, iron, flat screen TV and refrigerator plus complimentary water, shoe shine and newspaper. The desk contained a little box with stapler, tape, paper clips, etc--almost a complete office supply store! There was a coupon in the room for complimentary fruit in the room and a complimentary drink in the restaurant if you bought a meal. (Unfortunately we did not discover this until our checkout day.) The bed was comfortable and the room spotless. There was some wear in the room--stain on the carpet, mirror need re-silvering, frame repair--but service was impeccable. Wi-Fi and a marvelous buffet breakfast was included. Two interesting notes: (1) there was no clock radio in the room and (2) there was a window (luckily with a pull shade) between the bathroom and bedroom. If I ever return to Delhi, I will definitely stay here.

very nice rooms but a littlle strange shape. The breakfast is top class and would recomend one to really make time for it. The lobby has got a lot of wasted place and just a small area to sit in (4 seats). I guess that kind of forces you to sit in the lobby restaurant and pick up a drink. Quite central and it is possible, but not advisable, to wak to CP in 15 minutes. Would need a cab or rickshaw to go anyplace.

Room Tip: avoid rooms above the night club......only good for headaches
