We chose this hotel because of its location and solid reputation. On both accounts it fulfilled. We arrived very early and were given a room at 8.00 am. While waiting we were invited to use the Horizon Club Lounge where breakfast was served.
Our room was compact but well appointed. No complaints and we slept well.
In the afternoon we took advantage of relaxing by the swimming pool which is set in very attractive surroundings. We found the water far too cold to swim (November) so, instead enjoyed a tasty poolside lunch.
Later, we returned to the Horizon club Lounge for some pre-dinner drinks. The service was very friendly and our glasses were topped up regularly. The hors-d'oeuvres buffet was an excellent selection of tasty dishes which changed every evening. In fact it was so good that some guests were filling up instead of going out for dinner. We, however, ate in the hotel's main restaurant where the food was good but the service a bit rushed, possibly as it was around Divali and the place was full.
We enjoyed our stay and would certainly return. Previously, we have stayed at the Imperial which is gorgeous and has a heated pool, but a lot more expensive or the Maurya Sheraton which also has a heated pool but is not so well located. We would certainly recommend booking the Horizon Club rooms as having access to the lounge is a big bonus.
Top marks for service and an excellent location.

This is a true 5 star hotel, one of the best hotels to stay in. Extremely comfortable, well groomed and helpful staff, excellent food at a variety of restaurants.Chinese aare Thai food is mind blowing and very delicious, so do checkout the first floor multi cuisine restaurant.

the hotel has a great location and well appointed rooms.

it is a real haven in Delhi.

the spa is excellent, there is a good fitness centre.

restaurants are good although not great.

the concierge and business centre staff are helpful.

the car service however, would benefit from having clearer rates, it is annoying that extra charges are added to an already agreed rate, and then cancelled when the guest complains.

finally, the hotel lets itself down at the last moments of the stay, because the insistent request for tips leaves a bad impression.

surely in a Shangri la hotel guests will leave tips if service is good, without being prompted and repeatedly asked, when leaving the room, at the door, and at the airport, "how's my service?"

this is not practised in other hotels in the city such as the Hyatt, where more courtesy applies.

Delhi was the last stop in our tour of northern India. Having stayed in many Shangri La hotels across Asia we were looking forward to some luxury on arrival at Delhi. We were allocated Room 301. If you are given this room, refuse it. It was noisy from lifts, the restaurant below, outside traffic and the emergency generator when the power cuts occurred. Next morning we asked to be moved, having not slept. We took an upgrade room which we were asked to pay extra for. After intervention from our travel company, Le Passage to India, this was resolved. It would not have left such a bitter taste if the hotel had offered the upgrade rather than have outside intervention but not to be.As for the rest, the hotel is lovely but a bit tired. Staff in the restaurant were poor, and compared to the service we had encountered across the rest of India, they seemed to lack training and supervision.
Overall, a disappointing end to our Indian holiday. Fortunately, we are now in Bangkok Shangri La where they do understand what makes a 5 star hotel which the Delhi Shangri La clearly does not.

We spent three nights here with a warm welcome. We opted to stay on the top floor and enjoyed the benefits of the Horizon Club. our 10 year old son travelled with us, and the hotel was very accommodating by supplying us with a comfortable bed and linen for him. The food and refreshments were great and the spa is certainly one of the best. After a hot day of visiting temples and markets, we were happy to retreat to the oasis in the middle of a bustling city.

Room Tip: It's worth paying a bit extra for the Horizon club, the views are spectacular
