Owner description: Hauz Khas village was known in the medieval period for the amazing buildings built around a reservoir and drew a large congregation of Islamic scholars and students to the Madrasa for Islamic education. Today, some of India's most prestigious institutes are situated in the neighborhood, including the Indian Institute of Technology, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. The village itself retains its old-world charm, enhanced by well-manicured green parks planted with ornamental trees all around with walk ways, and surrounded by gentrified market and residential complexes which have sprung up around the old village. The reservoir itself has been reduced in size and well landscaped with water fountains. The village structure that existed in the medieval period was modernized in mid-1980s, projecting a quiet, upscale identity that attracts tourists from all parts of the world.

“Over exposed”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

While there are quite decent restaurants, and lots of shopping, I found this place WAY over-hyped.

I know HK for many years and last visited it in 2009 - I can't believe what it has become.

Go see it if you have time but, unless you eat there,or plan to hang out by the tank, plan to spend maybe an hour.

“amazing place to visit !!!”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

This place always welcomes you and make you feel that real feel of Delhi, some really old tomb monuments to hang around at. Also this place is full of restaurants and bars, each place is well designed and offer you a great experience, for me the best restaurant i loved was cire ristorante which is not too far from lake too, it has forest view but the best thing here is that it makes you feel like you are in Europe its so nicely designed and offer you great food and amazing services, if you are at Hauz khas village i will strongly recommend you to visit cire. Hauz Khas Village also gives you a feeling of a posh hill station, best part is you have to park your cars just before you enter the village so it brings you out of city feel.

“Good place to visit”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Interesting old village to wander around (it will only take 10-20 minutes) plus smart shops and antiques etc. Aimed at a middle class and tourist clientele, it was great for an interlude and a glass of wine. the temple and 'tank' themselves were very attrative. Nice deer park to wander around too.

“Quaint, good restaurants”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

I really liked this area, there was a lot of great shopping and restaurants and since it was mostly walking only it was nice to have a place where you don't have to worry about cars running over your feet. I highly recommend the south indian restaurant Naivedyam.

“An urban village”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Like all things in India, this too is a half hearted attempt to creating a village within the urban environs. It succeeds to a large extent with winding pedestrian only lanes and small mom / pop type shops and cafes. However, like the rest of India, there is no heed paid to cleanliness, hygiene, maintenance and the usual culprits that separate India from the rest of the world barring Africa. If the authorities cannot do their job, what stops the shopkeepers who have a vested interest in this place to get together and clean up the place? Lack of will and a stingy attitude that is common among Indians.

Walk the lanes, and you will be rewared with some of the best enterprising restaurants (Tattva, Naivedyam, Pizza Rossa) in all of Delhi.
